Memorial Day Parade in San Francisco
Head over to the Presidio this Monday for an awe inspiring tribute to honor those who lost their lives while serving our Country.
The Parade begins at the Main Post at 10:30am (near Sheridan & Lincoln) and will be led by the Pipes & Drums of the 191st Army Band.
Shuttle buses will be available to transport folks to the National Cemetary for the formal program at 11:00am.
The one-hour program will feature music, a color guard, and remarks by both civilian and military dignateries.
A 21-gun salute will end the program at noon. An inter-faith ceremony will follow the program at the nearby Presidio Chapel.
While you are at the Presidio, you can also take your family to visit the Walt Disney Museum, a block away from the Main Post at 104 Montgomery St. For tickets and more information, visit http://disney.go.com/disneyatoz/familymuseum/visit/location_hours.html

Janet, our newish receptionist at Paragon's Van Ness office, is a gorgeous red-head who's built like a pencil. She has fabulous clothes, but could also wear a sack cloth and ashes and still look great. So I trust her taste when she tells me that one of her favorite clothing stores is Luna Boutique on Sacramento in Presidio Heights. Christina Spaulding, Luna's owner has, according to Janet, a selection of clothes any woman could love, even if she is shaped more like a pear than a pencil.
I've yet to make it out to Luna, mostly because I'm not much of a shopper-- but Janet has promised to take me to one of Christina's Thursday soirees, when a portion of the shop's take is donated to a specific charity. Shopping this way sounds more appealing, because I get to help a worthy cause, have a glass of wine and maybe get Janet and Christina's good advice on what and what not to wear.
But the Thursday soirees are on hold for now while Luna dedicates its energy to working with the Salvation Army to make a difference for kids in need. Stop by Luna Boutique at 3615 Sacramento any time during business hours, pick a donation tag for a needy child from their tree and purchase the new toy or gift on the tag. Bring the unwrapped gift back and get 15% off your next purchase, plus the warm fuzzy feeling of making a difference for sometone this holiday season.

Spotlight on Presidio Heights -

Presidio Heights is a neighborhood newcomers to San Francisco only learn about after they move here. Bounded by Presidio Avenue, California, Arguallo and Pacific, it's an expensive, quiet neighborhood that is best known for its beautiful Victorians and exquisite streetscapes.
Nearly all of the architecture in Presidio Heights dates back to the 1920s or even earlier. The predominant housing style is single family, although there are some lovely residential income properties and a handful of exquisite pre-war apartment buildings with large, spacious units. Many of the 2-4 unit buildings have been converted into condominiums.

Shopping is a treat in Presidio Heights. Best known is Sacramento Street, a destination district for clothes horses who frequent chic boutiques or upper-end consignment shops. Sacramento Street also has some exceptional cafes and restaurants, like Spruce and Osteria.

An added bonus for Presidio Heights is the Laurel Village shopping center on California Street. You could technically call Laurel Village a strip mall, but it's much cuter than that with mid-century architecture, shops with big plate glass windows and side walks big enough for benches and outdoor tables and chairs. Laurel Village's retail shops are places where you can get real things done, like a five-and-dime, a grocery store, a bookstore and coffee shop.

Two more perks for Presidio Heights are the vintage Vogue Theater-- one of the City's last independent movie houses, and the Jewish Community Center (JCC), which has a state-of-the-art fitness center and excellent cultural programs.

Oh, and let's not forget the "Presidio" in Presidio Heights-- The Presidio of San Francisco lies directly North of the nieghborhood-- a former military base that was converted to a magnificant national park and recreation area in the 1990s. Inside you'll find verdant forests of Eucalyptus and Cypress, incredible views of the Bay and military buildings converted to offices and restaurants. The Presidio also boasts the new Disney Museum and the LucasArts headquarters.

Single family homes in Presidio Heights are big and costly. Elevenhave sold in Presidio Heights within the last six months, ranging from $2.2M to $4.7M. None of them had fewer than four bedrooms and three baths, and one had as many as seven bedrooms and seven baths.

There's a wider swing on condo prices in Presidio Heights. The least expensive to sell in the past six months was a teenie-weenie studio condo for $340,000. Like other less expensive condos in the neighborhood, this one had no parking (and parking is very difficult in the neighborhood). The most expensive was a large flat with bay views and over 2200 square feet, which closed for $1,787,000.

Whenever I need a change of scenery but don't have a lot of time I head on over to Crissy Fields just on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Yes there are wonderful "off leash" dog trails/park/beaches in Marin County(like Escalon Trail in Mill Valley, Rodeo Beach at the Marin Headlands, Terra Linda/Sleepy Hollow Divide in San Rafael and Fort Funston in San Francisco) but sometimes it's nice to have a change and when I'm looking for a change I high tail it over to Crissy Fields "off leash" beachin the i. It's all of 6-7 miles from Mill Valley, CA, it runs about .08 of a mile and the dogs just love it. You'll love it too because it's a quick ride, there is plenty of parking, there are bathrooms and there's a coffee lunch spot.
This particular "off leash" dog park/beach in the SF Bay Area is located right near the Golden Gate Bridge. What I like to do is get off at the first exit just after you go through the toll booths and loop under the Golden Gate Bridge and weave my way down to the first set of parking spots closest to the Golden Gate Bridge. It's about a 10 minute walk to the "off leash" beach area at Crissy Fieldsbut along on the right hand side you'll see an open space that is perfect for your dog's warm up before diving into the ocean. Make sure to pack a sweater, it's San Francisco after all, bring the chucker and don't forget the bags.
