The desirable areas of Willow Glen and Almaden border each other. Both are in San Jose. Both are in the San Jose Unified School District. Both are bedroom communities that grew out from industries (Willow Glen from Downtown San Jose and Almaden from the Almaden Quicksilver Mines).

Both share having considerable differences between New and Old neighborhoods, with the older homes sometimes being 80+ years old, and newer ones built from the 1960's along with a few new scattered small developments, such as The Plant.

Lovely Willow Glen is bordered by Campbell, and the Cambrian, Almaden and Downtown/East San Jose areas. All of Willow Glen is located within zip code 95125. However there are different neighborhoods within Willow Glen, including Fairglen, Lincoln Avenue/Downtown, Meridian Woods, Cottle Ranch, Palm Haven and Virginia.

Willow Glen formerly was its own independent and incorporated city, prior to annexation by San Jose. (For some reason it was also commonly referred to as "Goosetown"). Willow Glen offers a downtown area populated by an abundance of Mom & Pop shops, in addition to a few franchise places. It's an area known for its delicious food (such as Giorgio's, La Villa and Taiwan) as well as style (Scandalous Salon, Black Sea Gallery and Willow Glen Custom Jewelers). It is home to the founders of Treat Ice Cream and New York Sausage Company, and many other well known business owners. Many families live within blocks of each other, and have done so for generations.

Considered a desirable community offers a central location for great schools, entertainment and a wide variety of destination shopping areas.

Great first-run movie locations nearby include the CineArts and AMC Theater franchises, including Century 21, 22, 23, 24 & 25 Theatres, Santana Arts Theatre and Saratoga AMC 14. Additionally, The Alameda Theatres nearby specializes in showing first-run Bollywood/Indian films. Century 25 (aka The Retro Dome) also shows Indian films, although it is currently hosting School House Rock LIVE!

From the bargain outlet mini-mall at Westgate Shopping Center to upscale Westfield Shoppingtown Valley Fair to unique boutiques at Santana Row, along with a wide variety of ethnic grocery and restaurant choices, Willow Glen is a comfortably homey melting pot. Many families who come here from a wide variety of different countries find this area feels like a "home away from home." A wide variety of ethnic and organic grocers, retail and personal service providers are located here, including Cosentino's and PW Markets.

The Willow Glen neighborhood is comprised of a diverse population that regardless of country of origin, shares traditional values of education, family and frugality. There are lots of quiet and humble "Millionaires Next Door"--doctors, dentists, professors, engineers and entrepreneurs, many of whom graduated from Willow Glen High School themselves.
