Santa Barbara Neighborhoods - The Eastside

Santa Barbara's Eastside neighborhood includes the area East of State Street to the base of the Riviera. This neighborhood consists of both the Upper Eastside and Eastside. The Upper Eastside is known for it's old and distinguished residences. This neighborhood was popular with the wealthy residents of Santa Barbara around the turn of the century who built beautiful homes designed in the popular architectural styles of the early 20th century. Many of these victorian, craftsman, colonial and Spanish colonial revival homes remain and are as popular today as they were over 100 years ago. A well known landmark and culturally significant structure on the Upper Eastside is the Mission which is partially responsible for the establishment of Santa Barbara as a city and is the source of it's Spanish influence.
The topography of the Eastside gradually rises from the coast. The homes on the lower part of the Eastside are more modest than their Upper Eastside neighbors but many beautiful examples of craftsman, victorian and Spanish architecture can be found in this neighborhood. Residents of the Eastside enjoy easy access to downtown State Street's exceptional shopping, dining and entertainment scene. The Eastside is home to Santa Barbara's crown jewel of entertainment venues in the Santa Barbara Bowl. This outdoor ampitheatre hosts many of the most popular artists touring the country in a spectacular setting.

The Santa Barbara County Bowl- A Great Place to See a Show!

The Santa Barbara County Bowl is a wonderful place to spend an evening watching music. The Bowl is located at the end of Milpas Street, tucked into a canyon overlooking Santa Barbara. It was built in 1936 during the great depression and has been lifting spirits ever since. With a capacity of 4,562, it's small enough that everyone has a good seat and large enough to generate lots of positive energy.
Go early and hang out on the patio before the show. They have great food including barbecue tri tip sandwiches, pizza, burritos and more. If you are thirsty they have wine and a top notch selection of micro brewed beer on tap. Most of the shows run from Summer through Fall when there is almost no chance of rain and the weather is perfect. Click here for more information about the santa barbara County Bowl and a list of upcoming shows. If you do go to the bowl and like the neighborhood, as I do, feel free to contact me to show you the inventory of homes and condos for sale near the Santa Barbara County Bowl.

The Upper East
It is generally believed the Upper East is one of Santa Barbara's most prestigious neighborhoods. The "Upper East" is defined by its location east of State Street and above Valerio Street, and then eventually merges into the Mission Canyon neighborhood and the Riviera foothills.
The Upper East is a wonderful walking neighborhood, though residents often do not get too far for the frequency with which they run into friends to chat with along their way. Because the topography is relatively flat to gently sloping, a healthy walk to downtown is very doable, as is a stroll through the nearby Mission rose gardens.
