Santa Barbara, CA Neighborhoods - West Beach

Santa Barbara's West Beach neighborhood has been at the heart of the city's development and culture throughout it's history. The construction of Stearn's Wharf in 1872, California's oldest working wharf, provided Santa Barbara access to building materials and supplies necessary for the city's growth via cargo and passenger ships. Today, Stearns Warf is Santa Barbara's #1 tourist attraction with over 5 million visitors yearly. West Beach, ajacent to the wharf, was known as the public bathing beach in Santa Barbara's early years. City planners surveying Santa Barbara's streets just after statehood in 1850 had this in mind when they named Bath street, which ends at West Beach.
West Beach neighborhood boundarys are State Street and Stearns Wharf on the East, Castillo Street to
the West, W. Montecito Street on the North and the Pacific Ocean to the South. This neighborhood is also host to Santa Barbara's Harbor built in 1926 with over a thousand boat slips. West Beach is a popular visitor destination with many lodging and restaurant opportunities available. This neighborhood is ideal for walkers with a flat topography, easy access to downtown State Street, Stearn's Wharf and the Harbor.
Residential real estate in West Beach is comprised of single family homes and condominiums and multi unit residential complexes. Many of the homes in this neighborhood are popular weekly vacation rentals while others are occupied by permanent residents that enjoy this wonderful beachside location in the heart of Santa Barbara.
