I got a kitty today at the East Valley Animal Shelter.
She is only 8 months old. We named her Abbey. The kids wanted to name her Ranch Dressing. Sometimes parents just have to make an executive decision. We got her at the East Valley Animal Shelter which is the Los Angeles animal services division for Lake Balboa, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys, Toluca Lake, Panorama City, San Fernando, Burbank, Panorama City, etc. This place is really great.
This is one of the largest pet shelters in Los Angeles. It has dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, even chickens! Many people think a place like this is just filled with reject animals that are sick or just jerks. Well, that isn’t true. Abbey is the second cat I’ve adopted from East Valley and she is so sweet. My other cat, Turk is the happiest, friendliest kitty I’ve ever had and he came from East Valley.
One of the reasons I like to adopt from this shelter is how easy the adoption process is. First, you pick out your cuddly critter. This is the HARDEST part, because you’ll just want to take them all home! Once you’ve made your choice, you tell the front desk, they have you fill out some forms, you pay approximately $122 for a dog or $76 for a cat, which includes neuter/spay, shots and micro-chipping. You also get a gift bag! My kitten came with 2 cans of food, 2 play toys, a dog chew treat (this is also a doggie gift bag), one dose of Advantage II, and some other stuff. I’ve got to say, this is a fantastic bargain. And that’s it! Time to take your new pet home!
Now, if you already have a pet, East Valley Animal Shelter also has a six week dog obedience training course for only $60, a low cost vaccine clinic, and micro-chipping services. I highly recommend getting a micro-chip for your pet. I recently found a Chihuahua puppy running around by herself my neighborhood in Lake Balboa. She had a collar but no ID. I took her to the shelter to see if she had a chip and she didn’t. She was officially a lost doggie. I turned her over to the shelter because she was too small to keep in my back yard. She could squeeze right through the gate. Hopefully her owner knew to call the shelter to see if she was there, because they put lost animals up for adoption after only a few short days. If she had had a chip, they would’ve simply called the owner and notified them that she was there. So get your pet a chip! Even if they’re indoor only, they might accidentally get out and get away.
