Today while the guys went fly fishing, TPM, Kay and I went to visit Taylor Lake. We found out that this area was named after James Taylor who brought a group of miners across the continental divide back in 1860. They were looking for silver and gold and were the first white men into this area. The Ute Indians were here first and they hunted elk, buffalo and deer right here!

The Taylor River was dammed in 1937 to form this reservoir. From where I took this photograph, I was 9,500 feet above sea level and facing north. As you can see in the photograph, the water is low right now. Snow melting from the surrounding mountains fills the reservoir. When it is full it holds 2,033 surface acres of water.
