Historic Homes of Denver

Tucked away in the Historic Neighborhood of Bonnie Brae is a gem of a restaurant called Seven Thirty South. Named Seven Thirty South because that is the address on south University, this quaint neighborhood eatery is today's Deal of the Day.

Owned by the same guy that started Carmine's on Penn, Seven Thirty South serves great food and and offers a wonderful atmosphere. For today only, you can purchase a $15 voucher at Seven Thirty South and receive $30 worth of food and drink in return. I've been to Seven Thirty South many times and highly recommend this deal of the day!

Historic Homes of Denver: Wine & Food Series - Bonnie Brae Tavern

Bonnie Brae TavernThe iconic Bonnie Brae Tavern will bring back fond memories for many baby boomers. The interior of the Bonnie Brae Tavern reminds me of my childhood when my family would go out to the local diners in northern Minnesota. Not because there are plaid black & red flannel shirts walking around, but because of the turquoise vinyl booths against white walls. Just the FEEL of the Bonnie Brae Tavern is comforting.

The Bonnie Brae Tavern is and has been a Denver institution for over 75 years. After prohibition ended, a man of Italian extraction named Carl Dire, and his wife Sue, opened the Bonnie Brae Tavern and named it after the neighborhood in which it sat. They lived upstairs from the Bonnie Brae Tavern so that they could spend more time running their fledgling business. They eventually built a home across the parking lot from the Bonnie Brae Tavern. Carl and Sue's sons, Mike and Hank, returned home from college to join the family business. Carl Dire passed away in 1982, and Sue followed him in 2002. Today, grandchildren Michael and Ricky, and great grandchildren Chris, Teresa and Pat are all still a part of the Bonnie Brae Tavern.

Mile High Fine Homes Restaurant Review: Bonnie Brae Tavern

When people talk about restaurants I here the word "Institution" bandied about quite often. I heard it recently about a restaurant that was three years old....too funny. A restaurant in the Denver area that deserves this title is the Bonnie Brae Tavern.

The Bonnie Brae Tavern has been in the same location for over 70 years....and they have plenty of pictures on the walls to prove it. It is a true family run institution....handed down from generation to generation...with the forth generation working and helping run the establishment.

I am not going to delve too far into the menu...I really hope you try this comfort food heaven out! The pizza is a Denver legend...and quite good! The specials each night are even better...don't miss fried chicken night...or prime rib night. The place is always packed with folks from Bonnie Brae and Wash Park as well as locals from around the City...the beer is always cold...the full bar is a nice plus...and the games are always on the TV's that are visible from every seat in the house.

If you have never been to the Bonnie Brae Tavern here are a couple of things to know: 1...Get there early so you can find a decent parking spot...Two...save room for Bonnie Brae Ice Cream - it is just across the street...and they have the best ice cream in Denver!

How much better could it be...have a comfort food dinner at the Bonnie Brae Tavern (maybe the fish and chips)...and finish the night off with an incredible ice cream right across the street. You will find yourself doing it time and time again!

I just love Bonnie Brae....from the beautiful traditional Denver Homes....to the amazing location near I-25 between University Blvd and Colorado Blvd....to the location near both Washington Park and Cherry Creek. if you live in Denver what more could you ask? The location of Bonnie Brae is just north of the D.U. area bordered to the west by University Blvd, to the east by Belcaro (which is on Colorado Blvd), and to the north by Exposition (Polo Club).

Bonnie Brae like most of Denver has a small retail and restaurant section that straddles University Blvd. Three Denver traditions are located in the small one block center....the Bonnie Brae Tavern (good pizza and great fried chicken), the Saucy Noodle (if you don't like garlic...go home), and the world famous Bonnie Brae Ice Cream! The small park (if it is in Denver it has to have a park) known as Bonnie Brae Park is in the center of the residential area of Bonnie Brae and is surrounded by beautiful traditional Denver homes....that have beautiful prices to go along with them....Bonnie Brae is not an inexpensive place to live!

Buyers tend to choose this area because of the amazing location (short drives to the Denver Tech Center and to Downtown Denver), The proximity to the University of Denver (about a mile south on University Blvd), The ability to walk or bike to locations in Washington Park and Cherry Creek, and the general beauty of the neighborhood. Prices in Bonnie Brae range from around 500k to well over 1 million. If your budget allows you to fit within those price points you would be hard pressed to find a better place in the Denver Metro area to live then Bonnie Brae!

Historic Homes of Denver: Updates in the Mile High City, Historic Phipps Mansion

Kerry Klun - 303-549-0818 Historic Homes of Denver: Real Estate Agent in Denver, CO

Historic PhippsThe University of Denver has decided to sell the Historic Phipps Mansion. After more than 40 years of operating the Phipps Mansion as a conference center, the University has listed the property for $9,200,000 and is selling the historic property as a single family residence.

The Phipps Mansion, sits on 6.5 acres and includes an adjacent Tennis Pavillion. The Phipps Mansion was built by the former Senator Lawrence Phipps. The Georgian Styled Mansion took two years to build (1931- 1933) and has over 33,000 square feet with 14 rooms on the first floor alone. The home has 7 bedrooms, each with dressing rooms and baths. In addition, there is a sitting room on the second floor. The Phipps Mansion is a designated Historic Landmark. Mrs. Margaret Phipps donated the Phipps Tennis Pavillion to the University in 1960. Four years later she donated the Phipps Mansion as well.
Phipps Old
The Phipps Mansion was designed by architects Fisher and Fisher and constructed primarily from local products. The Phipps Mansion contains artwork, antiques, sculptures and tapestries. The contents of the Phipps Mansion are not currently listed as inclusions, but as in most transactions, they could be included into a sales contract.

The University of Denver says that the Phipps Mansion no longer fits into the University's core mission of education. In the past several years, construction at the University's main campus has equipted it with enough conference space that there is no longer any need to maintain an off campus facility.

Over the past 4 decades, the historic Phipps Mansion has been a popular venue for weddings and various corporate events. Existing commitments for this year will be honored.
