Historic Homes of Denver: Historic Homes and Buildings - Denver Fire House #3

Denver Firehouse #3You may remember my recent blog about Jerry, the Denver Fireman that was looking for a home. Well, we did find him a great old Denver Square that has spectacular original woodwork that even includes functional pocket doors between the living room and dining room.

Jerry is a true history buff (you wouldn't BELIEVE his collection of fire memorabilia). During our outings to look at homes, Jerry took me by three of Denver's oldest operational Fire Houses.

I would like to share with you the oldest in Denver; Fire House #3, which is located at 2500 Washington St. Station #3 serves Denver's Historic Neighborhoods of Curtis Park and Five Points.
Denver Fire House #3 today

This Deco styled Firehouse was built in 1931, and was initially, Denver's only fire station that was staffed entirely by black firefighters.

This old historic building is gorgeous! Built in red brick with light brick trim, it has a multi colored tile roof. It carries a staff of 4 firefighters.

I think that one of the things that I appreciate most about this firehouse are the beautiful old wooden doors that grace the front of the building. The planting of the tree in front definitely was a good idea! I can't believe that my trusty old Blackberry took pictures this good!

Historic Homes of Denver: Neighborhood Series, Curtis Park, Denver, CO

Kerry Klun - 303-549-0818 Historic Homes of Denver: Real Estate Agent in Denver, CO

The Curtis Park Neighborhood was developed in the mid to late 1800's as a fashionable suburb with large Victorian mansions and stately homes. A short walk from Downtown, Curtis Park is Denver's oldest neighborhood. Curtis Park also includes Denver's first park. Curtis Park was donated to the city from Samuel S. Curtis, a developer of the area.

In the 1960s - 70s, Curtis Park was one of Denver's poorest neighborhoods. In 1975, when a large part of the neighborhood was named to the National Register of Historic Places, a period of renovation and revitalization began. Home buyers discovered inexpensive yet exquisite historic homes in Curtis Park. Many of Curtis Park's stately Victorian-Era homes underwent extensive renovations starting a renaissance that continues to this day.

Several of the city's early movers and shakers lived in Curtis Park. However, because many residents of Curtis Park were immigrants, there were smaller homes interspersed amongst the neighborhood's turn-of-the-century mansions. Even in its early days, Curtis Park was known as a diverse, mixed income neighborhood.

A showcase for restored and renovated homes, Curtis Park has caught local and national attention for its mix of grand Victorians, Queen Anne's, Denver Squares and Brownstones. The Curtis Park Neighborhood is a popular urban area where homebuyers can find some of the best home values in the city.
