Stapleton Dog Poop Bags

It has recently come to the attention of the Stapleton United Neighbors Board that the City of Denver is no longer filling the bag dispensers along the parks maintained by Parks and Rec. It is the City's position that keeping the dispensers full is the responsibility of the neighbors.

What is confusing to most residents, however, is the fact that the Master Community Association (MCA), who maintains many of the finger and pocket parks around Stapleton, is still providing bags in their dispensers.

The SUN Board is currently discussing ways to ensure that all bag dispensers remain stocked so as to encourage dog owners to continue picking up after their pets.

Anyone who would like to offer suggestions please contact the board at StapletonUnitedNeighbors@gmail.com

The Town Center COP Shop has been open now for approximately eight months, and has been a valuable resource to the community. The shop is completely staffed by volunteers and is regularly open approximately 20 hours per week.

The Shop has been a resource for the surrounding neighborhoods to get information on Neighborhood Watch, Speed Watch, Business Watch, and other safety programs sponsored by the Denver Police Department. The Shop has also provided information and assistance for other city programs and events.

The volunteers at the Shop act as crime liaisons by completing crime reports for citizens, assisting with requests for extra police presence, and providing information to the community. Information from citizens regarding several past crimes has also been forwarded to the Denver Police Department through the Shop.

When two shootings took place in Stapleton during the fall of 2008, the Shop acted as an information hub, receiving and disseminating important and timely information to the surrounding community.

If you would like any information on safety programs, city services, or to report criminal or suspicious activity, please contact us by email, phone, or just stop by. The Shop is located in the same building as Anthony’s Pizza and Forest City Apartments on the corner of 29th Avenue and Roslyn Street. We are on the south side of the building facing King Soopers. Forest City and New Town builders have teamed up in an attempt to provide much needed funds to The Challenge Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps low-income students attend college.

Forest City donated the land, a nice corner lot just north of the new Central Park, and New Town Builders was able to build the home with donated materials and labor.

The home is now for sale and New Town Builders has pledged to donate all proceeds to The Challenge Foundation. Anyone interested in purchasing the Challenge House contact John Keene, at 303-547-7578.

High-end homes up for auction

Jude Sandvall: Real Estate Agent in Aurora, CO
High-end homes up for auction, an article from Rocky Mountain News, reports that seven Stapleton homes are being offered for sale online through March 5. These homes were originally priced at more than $1 million each. Four of the homes are in the Denver Brownstone development and three are in Urban Estates Homes - none have ever been occupied. For years, Stapleton has been one of the hottest housing markets in metro Denver. "We support any efforts any of our home builders need to do in this market," said Tom Gleason, spokesman for Forest City.
