Denver is a great City...and a really wonderful place for children to grow up. An amazing array of activities await those who choose the Colorado front range from skiing and snowboarding to hiking mountain climbing....this is an outdoor paradise...and the year round outdoor options help contribute to the fact that Colorado is always ranked at the top of the list of healthiest States in the U.S.
The easy decision for most is to say yes and relocate to the Denver Metro Area....now the hard part...which area of Metro Denver should you choose? To be perfectly frank it is hard to make a wrong decision here.
If you have children some of the factors you will need to consider are school districts, activities for children, amenities that appeal to kids, sporting options and of course how many of the surrounding homes have kids. I have a young boy so I needed to consider all these factors when choosing an area...and I choose Highlands Ranch....here is why:
The Douglas County School District: I did my research here and I suggest you do the same. I just loved the public school and private school options in Highlands Ranch. The school district is a real draw here and helps stabilize housing values (there will always be demand in areas that have good schools).
Amenities: Highlands Ranch is a master planned community...and as such it is full of amenities that appeal to kids like pools, playgrounds, sporting facilities, walking and hiking trails, fitness centers and more. You would be hard pressed to find a master planned community in the entire Country that offers more then Highlands Ranch.
Sporting Options: No matter what sport or activity your kids play they will have the ability to play it in Highlands Ranch....football, basketball, hockey, baseball, dance (in fact one of our High Schools just won the State dance championship) and more...Colorado is a State that takes healthy activities seriously!
Lots of Kids in the Neighborhoods: This is really kids town USA....and as such all the neighborhoods are loaded with kids. Highlands Ranch was really designed with kids in mind so you will be happy to know that once your family moves in your kids will quickly find new great friends to enjoy time with....and because of Highlands Ranch proximity to the Denver Tech Center we have a steady group of relocation families...so your kids will generally find lots of other children also looking to assimilate.
If a Master Planned Community is not what you are looking for...but you like the idea of having your children in the Douglas County Schools....shoot me an email or call me...I can suggest some other options that may work out well for you :)

I had these clients on an automatic email notification....here is the issue....they wanted a home in a specific neighborhood that had about 90 homes. They also wanted to pay about $50k below what any home had sold for in the last year. They also let me know they NEEDED TO BE IN THERE HOME IN THE NEXT 90 DAYS.
Here is the Question:
Jeff,
Mary and I are wondering why you continue to send us properties that are outside the neighborhood we are requesting. We love your area knowledge and how much time you take going through homes with us, but we have decided on the neighborhood we want. How come you keep sending us homes in other areas?
John and Mary
Here is my Answer:
John and Mary,
Here is the issues we have:
1. You need to be in a home in the next 90 days (is this flexible?)
2. Your top price is about $50k below the lowest selling price in the neighborhood (are you flexible on price?)
3. There are only about 90 homes in the neighborhood you have chosen (I have sent 3 letters to each owner in the section letting them know I have a ready, willing and able buyer who will close quickly...no response.)
Based on the above issues I need you to be flexible on price and time frame, If this is not an option then you need to be flexible on neighborhood.
FYI...we ended up about 1/2 mile away in a beautiful home that fit all their needs...and they got it at the price they requested....they have since sent 3 other buyers to me.

This is an exciting week coming up for Highlands Ranch - the annual festivities of Highlands Ranch Days are just around the corner.
What is Highlands Ranch Days? Well, long ago, before Highlands Ranch was a community of homes, it was a ranch. And Highlands Ranch days is a chance for the community to see inside the mansion of the original Highlands Ranch and see the working ranch that still exists.
Festivities and events begin on Thursday September 4th and will continue through Saturday the 6th of September.
Some of the things that you and your families can look forward to at Highlands Ranch Days are:
Hay Rides
Petting Zoo & Livestock Displays
Western Entertainment
Gold Panning
Mansion Tours and more!
On Saturday its Family Day and there will be a full barbecue at the Ranch and is an additional $7.00.
You can read about all of the details here.
Admission is $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for children. Parking is limited at the Highlands Ranch Mansion, and although I have yet to see
information stated as such I am going to guess there may be shuttle to the mansion. If I get further info on that, I will be sure to post it.
I live in Highlands Ranch and these types of quality community events are the reason I love to live here. There is always so much to do, so much to experience, for all ages.
If you are considering living in Highlands Ranch, I would love to discuss with you what's available and show you how I can assist you as your Realtor®.
