Today on Day 98 of 365 Things To Do in South Denver Suburbs we are going to kick off the holidays and start lighting some trees!
If you have ever driven up Santa Fe Drive in the winter and looked up Main Street in Littleton as you pass it, or down Main St/Littleton Blvd heading west – you know how beautiful it is when decorated for the holidays. Well tonight, you can be a part of it as it all comes to light with the annual lighting of the Christmas Tree Lighting & More.
Its the 27th Annual Candle Light Walk and Tree Lighting and it all kicks off in downtown historic Littleton at 5:15 pm. By 5:30 there will be music and hot cider in several spots and by 6:30 pm the Carolers will proceed down Main Street by candelight with Santa & his sleigh as the make their way to the giant Christmas Tree near The Melting Pot. Candles will be available for $.50 each if you would like to partake in the candlelit aura of the evening. Many of the local choirs and bands from area churches and schools will perform as well and many of the shops in downtown Littleton will be open for holiday Open Houses. There will also be drop off spots for food and toy donations.
Bundle up, it sounds like its going to be chilly out there tonight! Parking can be a little tricky, you should be able to park and walk at at Arapahoe Community College. The Littleton Light Rail station is nearby, but I am not certain if they will allow parking there for those walking to this event. Main Street is planned to close to traffic at about 5pm.
And if you feel like heading into the city instead, the Denver City and County building will Light the Lights tonight as well.

If you have lived in Littleton for any length of time, you for sure know how big the Littleton Friends of the Library and Museum Craft Fair is, even if you haven't been. Generally held the first Saturday in October, it is really one of the larger events throughout the year in Littleton and this year is no exception - there will be over 300 booths.
Its been a few years since I have attended myself but I have a new generation of craft fair go-ers - my daughter now is starting to enjoy perusing through the aisles of fairs & events such as these - so I see myself in attendance.
The Friends Craft Fair benefits the Littleton Historic Museum and the Bemis Public Library. The Museum in particular holds a special place in my heart as we attended many times when my kids were much smaller - visiting the historic grounds of a working 19th Century Farm. We have loads of photos climbing around on the trees, looking at the farm equipment, checking out the farm animals. Its been about a year now since we have visited and I look forward to the return.
Here's the details:
October 4th in Ketring Park
9:00 am - 4:00 pm Rain or Shine
Ketring Park is located on Gallup Street - next to the Littleton Historic Museum.

Old Littleton has many parts that are simply charming and if you venture off the main road just a little bit, you will run into the War Memorial Rose Garden.

This is the time of year that the gardens are just spectacular.

There are weddings and other special events here on a regular basis - the gazebo in the gardens is a perfect spot for a wedding.

The Sterne Fountains in the middle also tend to be a popular spot for formal photography. The pictures here were taken in the end of June of this year.

The War Memorial Rose Garden is located at 5804 Bemis Street, just across the street from Sterne Park.
