Glacier View Meadows and Red Feather Lakes, Colorado Weather
Last Friday it snowed and it snowed …and it snowed a lot! “They” say it’s unusual for us to get this much snow in February!

There is something quite peaceful about being snowed in, but after one day of it, it’s great to get out of the house and drive.
So far, my travels have only been up and down the Red Feather Lakes Rd. to the office. It’s a nice drive and I think the land covered in snow and our beautiful cerulean blue skies are so pretty.
Winter provides Glacier View Meadows and Red Feather Lakes residents many opportunities to enjoy outdoor sports like ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and riding snowmobiles. Many of those activities are almost right outside our back door! You can ice skate, go tubing, go for a sleigh ride, or my all time favorite winter sport- snuggle up by a warm fire inside.
So don’t just think of us as a great place in summer, because it’s fun and beautiful in winter too!

By the way, your cross country skis called me – They want out of the garage.

Happy Puppy New Year! From Red Feather Lakes, CO
We got a new puppy on New Year’s Eve! Her adoption was through A Puppy’s Voice,* in Fort Collins.
A puppy brings so many gifts!
It's been a wonderful way to start off the New Year for her and for us!
I hope your New Year will be filled with “puppy stuff” too, like:
Unconditional love, boundless energy, learning and growth, determination, playfulness, joyful adventure and peaceful quiet moments.
I wish you all these things and more-
I hope 2012 will be kind to you and may you have a "Happy Puppy sort- of New Year”!
*"A Puppy's Voice is non-profit organization which rescues homeless and abandoned dogs and puppies from high kill shelters. With the help of our committed volunteers, foster homes, donators and local veterinarian we are able to rescue hundreds of dogs each year, provide them with loving foster care temporary families and find them forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community by providing the importance of spay/neuter, responsible pet ownership, training and good nutrition."
By the way, Your dog called me- he wants to spend the rest of his life in the Red Feather Lakes area…but said that a weekend cabin or camping lot would do.

Fox Acres- One of Colorado's Hidden Golf Gems- About an hour drive northwest of Ft. Collins is one of my favorite summer getaways, Red Feather Lakes a prime camping hot spot for northern Coloradoans for decades, and as popular as Red Feather Lakes is to many of its regular visitors, very few are aware of one of Colorado's really hidden gems, Fox Acres. Fox Acres may be one of Colorado’s best kept secrets. I personally stumbled upon the course while camping nearly 30 years ago, while taking my motorcycle for a spin I came across this beautiful grassy knoll, it really seemed out of place. I really believed I had found heaven on earth. I hopped off my bike and started walking up the grass just when a golf ball rolled up to me feet and a ranger came scurrying up beh
ind me, not a Park Ranger, but a golf course ranger, I quickly apologized and hopped back on my bike and left. I believe this quote by Carrie Harney, director of marketing speaks volumes about the area “Fox Acres is home to some of the most beautiful land in all of America. This country club community is nothing less than magical, from its flowering meadows to its streams and woodlands. Living here is like living nowhere else.”
The private gated community of Fox Acres is home to one of Colorado's Top Ten private golf courses. Nestled onto 460 pristine acres and set deep in the Roosevelt National Forest, the Fox Acres community is small, private, and intimate and maintains an easygoing charm, and it is designed to remain that way. The community is located one mile from Red Feather Lakes Village, a small mountain community. You'll find amenities such as restaurants and a public library here. Country stores offer groceries, gasoline and sporting goods. Public lake fishing and boating is available in the Village area.
Amenities at the private par 71 John Cochran designed championship course include, a private, gated community with 24-hour security,
dining and social activities, unlimited fly-fishing on 13 stocked lakes where you'll have the chance to catch your share of Colorado native rainbow, brown, brook, steelhead and cutthroat trout, tennis courts, non-golf and ladies events, private corporate meeting areas as well as on-site lodging. All around you rise the rugged peaks of the majestic Rockies. Meadows, streams, and woodlands run through its valleys, where you can hike, bike, and pursue countless other activities. In addition to golf at the Fox Acres Country Club there is tennis, playground, Vita-Course Fitness Trail, and rental units available for Members and their Guests.
Although Real Estate at www.FoxAcres.com is limited to approximately 250 homes, there are 49 currently active properties starting in price from the mid $300Ks and topping out at $1.475M, many with views of the golf course, lakes, and mountains.

What is the Wild West Relay?
It’s a 200 mile Relay Race through farmland and forests, across paved and dirt roads starting in Fort Collins and ending in Steamboat Springs, CO.
The runners even run at night under the full moon. This can be rugged territory, my friends!
Approximately 26 miles of the course travels the Red Feather Lakes Rd from the old Forks Restaurant at Hwy 287, past Ponderosa Realty to Chapel in the Pines Church in Red Feather Lakes. For those of you who don’t know, this road climbs approximately 1000 feet in elevation is up and down mountains with very few stretches of level land. Talk about challenging!
Last year, I thought “these folks are extremely serious runners or just plain crazy!” ;-]
My friend, Debby Meyers is running in the Wild West Relay. I worked with Debby at the title company, for many years. No, she’s not running in those boots. The title insurance world can make you a little touched, but she’s not THAT wild and crazy!
Debby is also raising money for The Matthews House. “The Matthews House is a non-profit organization that empowers young people, ages 16-21, who lack the family support to transition successfully into adulthood by providing the resources and support necessary for them to take control of their lives, shape positive futures for themselves and become successful contributors to their community.”
You can click on Debby’s boots to contribute to The Matthews House; anything you can give will be appreciated.
.
~
It’s a worthy cause that “gives young people the most precious gift of all; a chance to believe in themselves and reach for the stars”
If you’re traveling the Red Feather Lakes Rd this weekend – Watch out for all those crazy runners along the roadside and if you're wondering why there are so many people running on the road- now you know:
It’s the Wild West Relay weekend!
