Silverthorne Colorado Events
Utah artist brings walk through ice structure to Summit County and Silverthorne Colorado. Eventually after expiermenting with an ice-skating rink in the backyard the artist began towing with the idea of an ice castle maze that experiment grew into walking through pieces of art, ice castles with thick walls, unique frozen water formations and lights embedded with the ice give the structure at nighttime appeal.
Starting this week the Silverthorne Pavilion lawn will be host to the artists ice castle experiment the site will be under construction for several weeks. The structure and a ticket booth or your will be situated on approximately 3/4 of an ice maker. The ice castle is a series of ice towers organically grown simply by sprinkling water on to strategically placed icicles. The structure changes throughout the season as well natural effects of sunlight, wind, snow and temperature make it a constantly evolving and unique structure. Last week Silverthorne town Council gave the go-ahead for the project after taking a look at the cost benefit analysis developed by count staff. Previously the ice castle was located in Utah and drew approximately 25,000 visitors which grew the towns winter visitation by roughly 15,000 participants. The town Council saw the Silverthorne ice castle is another event that would bring visitors to Silverthorne and generate revenue for our local businesses. Silverthorne spokesman Ryan Hyland wrote in an e-mail "partnering with event professionals to produce these events is a good model for Silverthorne as it allows us to provide large-scale high-quality events that we would not undertake on her own"
Given the numerous Silverthorne Colorado events that are produced in Summit County Colorado it can be a challenge to bring something new for our own residents and visitors.The town sees ice castles as an opportunity to bring in new and unique events and were very excited to bring this to Silverthorne Colorado.
