Thornton, Colorado: What is that abandoned building on Claude near 124th Ave?

Alan Strange Metro Denver Real Estate Professional: Real Estate Agent in Thornton, CO

Have you ever driven by the old grain silo on Claude Street between 124th Avenue and 128th Avenue and wondered A) What is that building and B) Why is it still standing there and C) Is that giant silo ominous when looking directly up into it? Well have no fear - I have all of the answers...

As part of the City of Thornton Parks and Open Space Advisory Commission (POSAC for short) we are tasked with making recommendations to the city council about use of funds and space in Thornton for parks and open space. Under that purview are properties that hold historic value to the community.

Located just west of Eastlake Subdivision this monumet has stood the test of time. This location is rumored to be one of the stopping points for the RTD Lightrail Project - North Line - in the future. Bordering the train tracks this structure would load up local farmers grain and prepare them for travel via the railroad.

The building has recently received a face lift so I posted some nastalgic shots from days gone by. This structure has been a favorite of local photags as a place for landscape shots as well as family portraits.

When you have the time and are driving through this area the next time be sure to take a look at this building as though it was the first time. It's amazing how we see things without really seeing them. We are creatures of deletion and this building may just be something we pass by. In reality this is a piece of our town history and should be apprecatied.
One thing that I found most interesting was the photograph I took from the inside looking up through the silo. It was creepy indeed.

I mean, right? Look up there...there was a huge bird that lived up there so dares of climbing the ladder went unanswered fearing what may greet us on top.
