Help Black Rock Schools

Gail Robinson, GRI, e-PRO - Black Rock Connecticut Real Estate: Real Estate Agent in Bridgeport, CT

Stop & Shop donates money to local public and private schools based on dollars spent by shoppers and schools registered under its A+ plan.

Families For Excellence, Black Rock Home School coordinators, neighbors, and I are advocating for Black Rock School (public, ID# 06755) and St. Ann's (private, ID# 07518). You can choose up to three schools.

You do not need to have children in school to participate.

Two ways to register:
1) for the less computer agile, e-mail me back the number on your Stop and Shop card, all 13 numbers [front, below, and after barcode] and the first 3 letters of the last name you may have used to sign up for your card and I will enter it for you.

2) register yourself, go to www.stopandshop.com, click on Our Stores, three panels will appear, go to the far right, top item is "A+", click on that and follow the prompts. The school ID numbers are above and you can search for more schools on the site, say, a high school some of your kids may attend.

If you have trouble, choose option 1) above or hit Contact Us on the Stop and Shop website and e-mail them your difficulties.

There are currently very few families registered and already, S&S has donated a fair amount to our two schools in the neighborhood.

We all spend quite a bit at this local monopoly, let your dollars go farther and help out local schools!

Black Rock Presents Mardi Gras with Delfeayo Marsalis

Gail Robinson, GRI, e-PRO - Black Rock Connecticut Real Estate: Real Estate Agent in Bridgeport, CT

Following four successful years, BlackRock Rocks will present their biggest Mardi Gras event to date, featuring, from New Orleans, Delfeayo Marsalis. BlackRock Rocks Mardi Gras will take place from 2:30 pm until last call on Saturday, February 13 at three venues in the heart of Black Rock: Acoustic Café, Black Rock Tavern and Lady Luck. The event will benefit Marsalis' Uptown Music Theatre & Swinging with the Cool School, a New Orleans children's program whose mission is to "promote community unity through the tradition of fine storytelling in musical theatre". Delfeayo Marsalis is the Founder, Executive Director and Composer for this organization, which is only his latest accomplishment in a stellar jazz career including multiple Grammy's and a myriad of other awards, spanning over three decades. BlackRock Rocks will also feature New York's Brother Joscephus and the Love Revival Revolution Orchestra, which plays a mix of R&B, soul, New Orleans jazz, and "secular gospel", with a dose of spectacle for good measure. The 10-piece Orchestra could be a Mardi Gras celebration all by themselves. Also playing this all-night party are local performers, including Rambunction featuring Renard Boissiere, Kung Fu, Mike Falzone, Sketch the Cataclysm, Manchado, The Darian Cunning Band, St. Bernadette, Big Moon, The Steve Detroy Trio, TC & The Speakers, Chris DeAngelis, Larissa DeLorenzo and the Buttondown Mafia, Brian Dolzani, John Torres, and Lisa Furman & The Blue Flies. A single admission price of $20.00 will give access to all three venues throughout the event. Tickets for children 12-21 are $5, and children under 12 enter free. More information and upcoming announcements such as additional bands, final performance schedule, advance ticket specials, and purchasing locations can be found at www.blackrockrocks.org. Additional updates will also be made to the group's event page on Facebook, and on www.myspace.com/fattuez. Questions about the event can be directed to BlackRock Rocks Chairperson, Angel Telesco at angel@blackrockrocks.org. BlackRock Rocks is a group of local musicians, artists and avid supporters of both. BlackRock Rocks Mardi Gras, to date, has donated approximately $14,000 for the revitalization of New Orleans. Previous years' beneficiaries include the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, The Higher Ground Fund and the Tipitina's Foundation.

Hello Supporters, The devastation in Haiti is unlike anything the world has ever seen before. Thankfully the worldwide community is coming to the aid of the people of Haiti. The greater Bridgeport area is getting involved as you would expect. At Burroughs we know firsthand just how supportivethe local community can be. We know that our closest friends and supporters think globally as well as locally. It is for that reason that we have decided to postpone our 3rd annual "Freezin' for a Reason" event from February 13th to Saturday, March 27th. The plunge will now take place at 11am. We hope that this decision will allow each of us and all our friends and family to play whatever role we can possibly play in the relief effort in Haiti. We hope that you will be able to plunge with us that day and help raise the dollars needed for all the terrific programs at Burroughs. Go to www.firstgiving.com/burroughs to register or donate.
