A time held tradition in Morris Cove is the annual Morris Cove Halloween Parade. The East Shore Neighborhood Preservation Association (ESNPA) has been running this event for over twenty years.
The ESNPA is a non-partisan, non political civic organization which monitors zoning issues and takes part in activities which enhance the quality of life and fosters an increased sense of community among the residents of Morris Cove.
The ESNPA at their summer fundrasiser which is held with the cooperation of Anthony's Ocean View raises the money it needs each year to host events like the Morris Cove Halloween Parade.
The ESNPA purchases the Halloween candy and puts together 475 bags which are given out to the children who take part in the parade. Doughnuts, apple cider, coffee and hot chocolate is also provided at the end of the parade route for the children and their families.
For a while it looked like the weather was going to threaten the parade last night with some rain but luckily we only had a few sprinkles for a few minutes before it started.
It's a fun-filled night for the children and families of the East Shore neighborhoods of the Annex and Morris Cove. The parade is held each year on Halloween night at 6:00 pm. Hundreds of children start gathering at the beginning of the parade route at Parker Place and are broken down into groups from Pre-K to the 6th grade.
At the end of the parade route are three judges on a reviewing stand who award prizes to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners with the most original costumes for each grade. There's even a group for any adults who wish to dress up in costume and particpate in the event. We even had a few pets dressed up in costume this year too!
As a life long resident of Morris Cove, it's an event I look forward to each year and remember vividly when my now two grown sons would dress up in their costumes and march in the parade. The originality of the costumes is incredible as you'll see in the video not only from the winners but from all of the children to participated in this year's parade.

Pardee-Morris House - A Morris Cove Historic Treasure
It was a wonderful day from 1:00pm to 4:00pm for thePardee-Morris House in Morris Cove New Haven CT. The public open house which was scheduled for September 27th was rained out and rescheduled for today.
Since 2000 the Pardee-Morris House has been closed to the public due to lack of funds but restoration work has been ongoing for the past few months so it could be opened again on a limited basis.
Due to a some prior commitments already made for today, I was unable to get to the open house until about 3:45 giving me only a few minutes to get inside to take some photos of the interior. There is still quite a bit of work to be done to fully restore this historic treasure but what a sense of history you could feel walking through the areas of the Pardee-Morris House which were available to be seen.

Pardee Morris Houe - Open House Sunday September 27, 2009
On Sunday, September 27, 2009 there will be an open house at the Pardee-Morris House for the East Shore neighborhood from 1:00-4:00 pm.
ThePardee-Morris House located at 325 Lighthouse Road in the neighborhood of Morris Cove in New Haven CT has not been open to public since 2000. A combined effort by Morris Cove neighbors and the East Shore Management Team has helped to bring about the comeback of this historic treasure.
Contractors have been working diligently over the past few months on the Pardee-Morris House which is owned by the New Haven Museum painting, fixing windows, cutting hedges and restoring water and electricity.
The open house will take place on the lawn of the Pardee-Morris House. There will guided tours, a musical program, children's games and light refreshments. Plan on bringing a chair, lawn chair or picnic blanket and spend a few hours to enjoy the great beauty and history of thePardee-Morris House.
