We Made It Through Hurricane Irene
As Hurricane Irene was barreling her way towards Connecticut yesterday those of us who live in Morris Cove New Haven CT were under a mandatory evacuation to leave the area. The combination of heavy rains, intense winds, high tide and a new moon were the ingredients for a perfect storm. Due to our location in the southeastern tip of New Haven bordering Long Island Sound the Mayor of New Haven John DeStefano ordered the evacuation on Saturday afternoon.
At around 4:00 police cars started driving through Morris Cove on bull horns advising all residents to evacuate the area. By around 6:00 police were going door to door to make sure everyone was informed. While many residents made the decision to evacuate there were also a number of people who decided to stay in their homes.
My husband and I decided to stay in our house and ride out the storm. Just after midnight we lost power and began to reconsider whether we made the right choice. We were lucky that about an hour later our power was restored but with Hurricane Irene pounding on the door we prayed we'd make it through the night without a further power outage.
It was a scary night but I am so very thankful to my friends here on Active Rain for their concern about our well-being and who kept in contact with me via email and Facebook last night and this morning.
Today we woke up to the continuing heavy rain and wind and were fortunate that we did not experience any flooding or damage from the storm but there were a lot of fallen branches in the street, on our cars and in our yard As morning turned into afternoon the rain had stopped and the sun started shining through the clouds. People started making their way of their homes and going out to check out our neighborhood.
Seeing that it was safe to venture out I wanted to take a drive so I could take some photos. The first place I wanted to see was the Pardee Seawall where I knew it would be full of people who would want to watch the waves crashing along the seawall. Since we don't get the chance to experience big waves very often here I couldn't wait to get there. It was mother nature at her finest.
The spray from the waves as I walked along the fence was unbelievable. I got totally drenched and loved every second of it!
My next stop was Fort Hale Park where I was able to walk right along the beach. The pier that I used to fish from when I was little was completely submerged in water and made me realize how ferocious this hurricane was.
I've never seen anything so spectacular as what I witnessed today. Hurricane Irene left her mark in Morris Cove and I was so glad that I got out today so I could see this!

Morris Cove Rascals Reunion Take 3-A Night To Remember!
Combine picture perfect weather, a spectacular sunset. great location, food, music and you couldn't have asked for anything more for the Morris Cove Rascals Reunion Take 3 held last night on the deck at Amarante's Sea Cliff.
The Morris Cove Reunion has been held to bring together old friends and accquaintances that either were alumni of Nathan Hale School or St. Bernadette or who lived in or had friends from the Cove. We've previously had two other reunions... one in June of last year and one this past September. The turnout last night was tremendous and was our biggest showing yet with over 150 people.
It was a night filled with sharing memories of our days spent together as kids and renewing friendships from 10, 20, 30 and even 40+ plus years ago. We all wore name tags and it was so much fun finding long lost friends that we may have lost touch with and had not seen in years.
We laughed, we reminisced, we sang, we danced and we remembered dear old friends who have passed away and are no longer with us. There are no words to express the feelings of warmth, love and the rekindling of old friendships that filled the air from everyone who attended last night to make our Morris Cove Rascals Reunion Take 3 such a wonderful success.
There are plans for another reunion in September which if the one last night is any indication will be even bigger and better! Become a fan and stay tuned to Morris Cove New Haven CT on Facebook for more details. Special thanks go out to Amarante's Sea Cliff for their wonderful staff and hospitality and to those Morris Cove Rascals who worked so hard and put so much effort into making our Morris Cove Rascals Reunion Take 3 a night to remember!

Lighthouse Point Park in the Morris Cove neighborhood of New Haven CT is a popular venue for both formal and informal gatherings.
What makes Lighthouse Point Park such a great destination for parties? The Location!

I love the beach and easy access to Long Island Sound. The function room is literally on the beach, surrounded by sand on all sides. Party guests can walk on park paths, stroll along the beach or take a quick swim in the Long Island Sound.

The party hall is incredible, too. A single-room function hall is a great for both weddings and corporate gatherings. The raw, industrial feel inside is balanced by the beachfront surroundings and the giant, working carousel inside. How many parties can boast a working carousel?

If ActiveRain were to have a party in CT, Lighthouse Point Park would be the best stop for a fun gathering.
