About Rowayton's Beach Community

Connecticut Calamari.

I got this recipe from an old timer in Rowayton, Ct. Not many of them around since home prices have gone up with the average sales price hovering around $1.3 million.

This is an easy recipe that only takes minutes to cook. We like to get our seafood and produce locally at the farmers market and local fishmonger.

5 baby squid, 4 to 8 inches long

1 jalapeño, thin sliced into wheels-rings

1 minced garlic clove

1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley

1/3 cup Italian bread crumbs

2 table spoons olive oil

2 table spoons vegetable oil

2 table spoons of butter

Salt & Pepper.

Clean the squid and cut into rings use the tentacles as well. Your local fishmonger can clean the squid for you or click here to see how Method B. Pat dry squid and lightly salt.

In a non stick pan heat oil and butter with garlic, once hot add the jalapenos and baby cut squid, cook for 2 1/2 to 4 minutes on high. If lots of moisture then take out with spoon.

About 30 seconds before done cooking add bread crumbs and mix together. Once done cooking add parsley and stir.

Plate calamari and lightly pepper and serve with lemon wedges.

Serve hot and enjoy.

Tip:-If you think your calamari is tough then soak squid 6 to 24 hours in milk, refrigerated to tenderize.

3^st quarter of 2011 market housing data for single family homes in Rowayton, Connecticut.

Rowayton had 1 sale in September at $742,500 but as of today there are 8 other homes under deposit and 66 single family homes for sale.

For the 3^rd quarter Rowayton had 8 sales which are down from the 16 sales for 3^rd quarter of 2010 with an average sales price of $1,164,125 compared to $1,587,969 of 2010.

Year to date homes sales total 40 which is up from 37 (through Sept 2010) along with the median sales price being the same as ytd 2010 of $1,312,000.

Rowayton has a population of about 3,569 with an estimated median household income of $110,498 in an area of 1.197 square miles. Rowayton is part to the city of Norwalk and is the 6^th taxing district. Rowayton’s originally was an oyster and fishing village along the 5 Mile River but now is home to sailing, pleasure crafts and motor boats. Pinkney Park hosts annual events such as Shakespeare on the Sound, evening outdoor concerts, River Ramble Fair and the weekly farmer’s market. Bailey Beach is the town’s beach with playground, basketball court, volleyball area, and pavilion and picnic area.
