Crestbrook Park Golf Course, is a manageable walking course, in spite of it's high slope. The layout of the course will have the golfer utilizing all of their abilities of slope play with the various uphill, side hill and down hill lies that will be presented. Large, undulating greens are cut tight requiring skill to hole out. Fairways are manicured and tight and the rough at times has a US Open type feel.

Fees are reasonable for residents and non residents alike.

Sunday Photos . . It's Spring and the little ones are starting to move about

As I made the drive into Crestbrook Park this morning in a misty, drizzly fog, this Canadian geese couple were watching the little ones. They've been moving around for a couple of weeks now, and getting strong and bigger by the day.

It didn't matter to them that it had rained all night, and was raining when I took this photo.

We get at least one set of geese hatch-lings a year at the course, which is surprising as there are always many geese about. There have been duck sightings and swan sightings near the course as well, but none of their little ones have been sighted so far.

Although the weather didn't allow for a bit of golf this morning, the commune with nature offered some benefit. Hopefully the Open House I host this afternoon will be more productive.

Earth Day is Near . . April 22, and there are so Many Ways We can Get involved

Earth Day is Near . . April 22, and there are so Many Ways We can Get involved

April 22 is Earth Day, 2011. It is also the 40th Anniversary of the first Earth Day, and a few days beyond the 1 year Anniversary of the BP Oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.

Walter Kelly's First Earth Day Poster

I can recall in a previous career working Earth Day Conferences as a vendor of Environmental Recovery and Minimizations processes. Local schools would send their older students to view the exhibits and to learn.

As with most kids, it was a matter of getting a few hours off from school, and roaming the aisles to see who had the best freebies to give away.

Years later we can only hope that at least a bit of that impact would have registered with those kids.

Last year alone, here in the United States, enough plastic bottles were discarded to circle the Earth twice if lined up end to end.

As part of Earth Day, maybe a bit of time picking up some of that plastic waste and depositing it into recycling bins, they are around.

In Watertown CT, on Sat, April 23, there will be an Earth Day 5K Road Race sponsored by local businesses and run by the Watertown Park & Recreation Dept.

The road race will start at 8:AM from Crest-brook Park at 834 Northfield Rd, Watertown.

A limited number of Earth Day Shirts will be presented to the first entrants. Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winners in different age groups.

Earth Day doesn't need to be just a one day experience, but something we can try to do daily.
