If you are interested in living in an important, fascinating, and dynamic part of the country, then consider the homes for sale in Capitol Hill, Washington, DC.
Most Capitol Hill real estate consists of fantastic, upscale townhomes, with price points that vary from the $400k range to the $2M range. It would be hard to find a place in the country with more fascinating and historical attractions than this area. Museums are everywhere, of course, from the famous Smithsonian museums to those that are closer to Capitol Hill, such as the National Building Museum, the National Museum of Crime & Punishment, the Lillian & Albert Small Jewish Museum, the International Spy Museum, and more. Theaters such as the Shakespeare Theatre abound; and galleries such as the Numark Gallery do too. Washington is famous for its monuments: from the seats of government to the famous Jefferson Memorial, Mount Vernon, the National Portrait Gallery, and more.
Washington is an amazing place to be, and Capitol Hill is the center of it all.

This is the dome on top of the Library of Congress, right across the street from the Capitol Building.
The Library was originally set up in the Capitol, and was destroyed when the British burned the building in 1814. To get things going again, Thomas Jefferson sold 6.487 books from his personal library to Congress.
A new building was authorized by Congress, designed by two Washington Architects, John Smithmeyer and Paul Pelz. The doors opened on November 1, 1897.
I took this with my new Nikon Coolpix P500 on a cold, crisp and clear January morning. I'm starting to take advantage of such days, when the capital provides wonderful photo ops!

This is the Statue of Freedom that sits atop the Capitol Dome here in Washington. Ironically, much of the work that it took to cast the statue and get it to the top of the Capitol was done by slaves. Philip Reid, a slave who took over as foreman of the foundry where a bronze was cast, did not earn his own freedom until a year after the statue was completed and sitting on top of the dome.
I took this one about two blocks east of the Capitol this morning with a zoom lens that could turn me into the paparazzi! It was a Christmas present to myself!

Friday Fotos: Working Late - the US Capitol Dome at Night
As I was driving down North Capitol Street the other day, I noticed how beautiful the US Capitol dome looks at night when it's all it up - like maybe Congress is working late? So when the light turned red and I stopped, I grabbed the camera on the front seat of my car, leaned out the window and snapped one!
One of the things I love about living in Washington, DC is the beauty of the many monuments and public buildings, especially when I drive by at night.

I was coming home after previewing some homes on Capitol Hill, and passed our seat of government just as the sun was setting and there was a big old cloud behind the Captiol dome.
