One of the things I love about selling old houses in Washington, DC is detail. I to this photo, for example, at a very old house at 1 Logan Circle that is now amazing condos. And as I was leaving, I was struck by the beauty of the staircase. Some artisan sometime during the 1800's crafted this beauty, and it will remain stunning well into the 2100's. Now if they could preserve women of a certain age this well...

John A. Logan was a Civil War Commander and the leader of the Army of Tennessee. Now he is memorialized in a statue that is in the middle of Logan Circle, the anchor of one of Washington's most popular (and very cool) neighborhoods. Whether you seek a turn of the last century brownstone ro a condo, you acn find it in thie wonderful neighborhood.

I met this little guy today at the Logan Circle Whole Foods. He was guarding the grocery cart that I wanted. He waited patiently for me to root around in my purse for my camera, and after I took a few, I left him there and selected a different cart for my fruits and veggies - all of the 0-point foods on the new Weight Watcher's plan.

Washington has many homes that were built in the late 1800's and early 1900's, and they have some amazing detail work. This is especially true of our downtown neighborhoods, like Logan Circle.
The bricks were not anything like you see today. This home has the rounded transome over the door, and the decorative brick work on either side add a lot of interest.
But before you even reach the door, the ironwork on the steps leading up to it are interesting, as are the posts and even the hand rails.
One of the fun things about selling these old historic homes is that they are not cookie cutters. And most of them have been extensively resotred inside, with special attention paid to bringing the electrical, plumbing, heating and central air into the twenty first century.
In other words, we just never know what we are going to walk into when we are showing or previewing properties downtown.

Friday Fotos: Burglar Bars?

So are these burglar bars, or is it decorative grill work? It probably depends on the neighborhood. I took this shot at a house near Logan Circle, a neighborhood where they would have absolutely been burglar bars a few years ago. But now, they could very well be plain old decorative grill work. Yeah. That's my vote!
