The Sussex County seat, Georgetown was founded and incorporated in 1791.

The town's center, "The Circle", is listed in the National Historic Record with a number of historic buildings including the Sussex County Courthouse.

Georgetown, with a population of 4,896 in the 2000 census, has two distinct business districts, one downtown around The Circle and the other sprawling up and down U.S. 113. Georgetown is in the Indian River School District.

The Circle is also the site every two years of Return Day, an festival to "announce" the winners of that November's elections and bring opposing candidates together to "bury the hatchet".

The Fourth Annual Wings and Wheels will take place Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Sussex County Airport in Georgetown, Delaware. The event will feature vintage aircraft and classic cars. Many food vendors and assorted arts and craft exhibitors, kids games, entertainment will be on hand.

WWII Veteran programs and re-enactments will fill the day. Something new is being added this year. On Friday night, September 30 a dinner and show from Footlight Productions will provide an evening of fun and nostalgia. The show is named "Stage Door Canteen" - A Salute to the Music of the 40s.

Rotary Club Golf Tournament, Georgetown, Delaware, September 8, 2011

The Georgetown/Millsboro Rotary Club is hosting a golf tournament on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Sussex Pines Country Club in Georgetown, Delaware. The event's proceeds will benefit the Delmarva Red Cross. Last year the golf tourney presented the charity $6000.

The golf tournament is a scramble format starting at 1:00. Lunch will be served prior to the start of play and dinner will be available afterwards. There is a chance for a new car for a hole in one offered by MeGee Motors.

The 7th Annual Georgetown Library 5K Run/Walk and One Mile Walk will be held on Friday June 17, 2011 at 7PM. Both courses start and end at North Bedford Street Park, Georgetown, Delaware.

Pre registration, through June 13 is $15. Race day registration is $20, 6- 6:45PM. Awards will be presented to the male and female 5K Over all and Master Champions as well as the top three finishers in the following age groups: Nine and under, 10-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over.

T shirts are guaranteed to the first 100 registrants. Water stop and refreshments provided. Timing and finish line by Seashore Striders Race Productions. Post race award ceremony will be held at the park.
