Milford, DE was originally called Saw Mill Range because the land there had been granted to the Duke of York to produce lumber for England. At the intersection of U.S. 113 and Route 1, Milford is known as the “Gateway to Southern Delaware.”

Milford’s crown jewel is the Mispillion River Walk, which is a greenway built to preserve the city's waterfront. The Abbott's Mill Nature Center is also in Milford.

U Just Ask Group Created to Help Area Needy in Milford Delaware

A group of women in Milford have formed a group named U Just Ask to help the needy in the area. ASK is an acronym for Actively Supporting with Kindness.

They plan on initiating a winter coat drive, Thanksgiving dinners, school uniforms, and toys at Christmas. They are looking for vounteers to help with these efforts. Activities include delivering items, wrapping gifts, etc.

The first community wide event will be a "Pay It Forward Day" scheduled for September 28. They hope to schedule one each month. A few suggestons are; paying for the coffee or toll for the person behind you in line or baking cookies for a home bound person.

The group has a facebook page. "Like" them and get updates of the events.

St. John's Oktoberfest, Milford, Delaware, October 7-8

The 21st Annual German Oktoberfest will be held at St. John's Church in Milford, Delaware on Friday and Saturday, October 7-8, 2011. It begins Friday, October 7 at 6PM with The Funsters. St. John's Church is located on the corner of Seabury Avenue and School Place. The event is a celebration of European cultures with live entertainment, food and fun.

The international food court will feature traditional German entrees along with Italian, Polish, Hispanic and Filipino dishes. Arts and crafts, white elephant, helicopter rides, desserts and entertainment will be available all day Saturday. There will also be inflatable games, a petting zoo and pony rides.

Saturday's line up of live entertainment includes a German Band, Spanish dancers, Irish Dancers, an Elvis impersonator and The Honey Combs.

If you love antiques, you'll be glad to know Parson's Thorne Mansion in Milford is hosting an Antique Market on Saturday, September 24 from 9 AM through 3PM. The mansion is located at 501 NW Front Street in Milford, Delaware.

Antique dealers from Delaware and Maryland will be selling their wares. The market is sponsored by the Milford Historical Society. Proceeds will benefit the preservation of the mansion. Admission which includes a tour of the mansion is $1.00 per person. Food and beverages will also be available. Free parking.

Relay for Life of Milford, Delaware

This year's American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Milford, Delaware will be held Friday, June 17 through Saturday, June 18 from 6PM until 8AM. The location is the track behind the Milford Middle School on Lakeview Drive.

The Survivor Reception begins at 5PM. The Opening Ceremony will start at 6PM with a Survivor and Caregiver Lap around the track. Registered Survivors will receive a T shirt and lapel pin. There will be a Kid's Walk at 8PM for children under the age of 12.

Nine o'clock marks the time the luminaria will be lit. The candles in bags lined up around the track are placed in honor or in memory of those who have or are battling cancer. A ceremony will be held to honor and remember these special people.

The Relay for Life Teams will be lined up around the outside of the track with different activities, entertainment and items for sale. Team members will walk the track all night long to raise funds for The American Cancer Society.
