The Brandon area is growing. Brandon's growth has been phenomenal in the last several years. In 1960, when the first census of Brandon was done, the town only had 1.655 residents, by 2000 there was over 77,000 and today there is close to 100,000 residents. Many new subdivisions have been built and completed in the last several years. The surrounding areas of Valrico, Lithia, Riverview and Durant have also been growing. New developments have been built in the Bloomingdale area around the Bloomingdale Golf Course. Traveling south is the subdivisions of FishHawk, FishHawk Trails, and FishHawk Ranch. The growth has been fueled by homeowners looking for affordable single family housing.

Brandon was founded in the 1850's by the Brandon family; Brandon has, grown from one family living alone in the wilderness, to a thriving community in Tampa Bay. Brandon is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country. Brandon offers a variety of dining experiences from fast food to fine dining. It also is the home for the Westfield Shopping Center with over 130 stores. Brandon is now home to the official World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) training facility for future superstars, Florida Championship Wrestling.

Close to Brandon, there are the Tampa and St. Petersburg museums and Performing Arts. Brandon also has a variety of recreational opportunities including golf courses, parks, youth and adult sports leagues. Brandon has a wide range of housing choices up to over a million dollars. The Bloomingdale area has over 4000 homes. The towns of Lithia, Seffner, Dover and Valrico are often considered part of the Brandon area.
