Carrollwood is about 15 miles of north and a little west of downtown Tampa. Matt Jetton of Sun State Builders, began building homes around the 200 acre Lake Carroll in the 1950's. By 1974, a little over 900 homes were built all with access to Lake Carroll. These homes sold for $20,000 to $40,000. Today they sell for considerly more. Carrollwood has expanded to include many more communities such as Lake Magdalene, Northdale, Carrollwood Village or Whispering Oaks. Carrollwood is located along North Dale Mabry.
