90 foot lap pool overlooking the Atlantic Ocean
Preferred Properties just listed the house with the longest lap pool I have seen in the Key West area. You might call this place the lap of luxury. The 3384 sq ft home is located on Cudjoe Key at Mile Marker 20, about a 20 minute drive out from Key West. The house sits just at the end of a canal that provides immediate access to the Atlantic Ocean. The house is located on an 18,960 sq ft lot with all major views oriented toward the water. The master suite is located on the east side and the guest rooms are on the west side of the house. The living and entertaining areas are located in the middle and separate the two wings to provide total privacy for the owners.

When I first entered the home my eyes were immediately drawn to the left beyond the bring living area shown above and past the informal dining area to the mangroves and water. Just to the right was the formal dining room and beyond it was the large kitchen with a large window with an incredible view of the pool and open water beyond.
I couldn't wait any longer. I had to step outside to see for myself how wonderful the outdoor space was to be.
The master suite is larger than some of the two story homes in Truman Annex. And the views are just incredible. The master suite has immediate access to the pool area, but there is an inside spa in the master bath.

Looe Key Reef Lower Florida Keys
The lower Keys are closer to Cuba than they are to Miami. The water is clear and packed with fish. We have been blessed... there is no BP oil in the Keys! Looe Key is 5 minutes from Cudjoe Key. Looe Key is a coral reef in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.

The last time we were out at Looe Key my husband and friends climbed the American Shoal Light at Looe Key. That's pretty crazy considering that platform is 40 feet hight. The light is 109 feet high and was first lit July 15, 1880. The tower is made out of cast iron and it has been sitting in the ocean in the Florida Keys since 1880.

Each unit is owned in fee simple but is part of a condo association that maintains the common areas, pool, dock, sewage treatment plant, grounds maintenance, etc. The monthly condo maintenance fee is $300. Individual owners are responsible for their own flood, wind, and fire/casualty insurance.
These units were built in 2007 and look like they are brand new. Unit #110 sits at the water's edge and has direct ocean views. The units were built so that each owner has direct water views as well. Each unit is 1156 sq feet of living space divided between two floors. The main level has a nicely appointed kitchen, large living and dining area with windows and doors opening onto the balcony, and a full bath. There are two large bedrooms on the second level and each has its own full bath and balcony. Unliketownhomes and condos that may have windows at front and back, these homes have windows on all four sides. The places are filled with sun - and views.
Unit #108 sits one unit back from the water on the left side. The photo below shows the hammock that awaits the owner each time he or she must decide to either lay back and relax or walk up the stairs to go inside. Life in the Florida Keys can be so demanding.
Each unit at Sunrise Beach Resort has a boat slip. The slips will accommodate a boat of up to 21 feet. There is a clearly marked channel to take boats to open water. The floating dock and boat slips are located just on the other side of the waterfront pool and the private sandy beach. There is even a fish cutting station and outdoor shower. What a life!
Since I rarely venture off the island of Key West so I asked the Property Manager to describe the type of owners and renters that live in these units. She said a lot of people that live in the colder northern states like to come to the Keys to rent a place for the winter. So even though the unit could be rented daily, the normal tenancy is quite long. During the summer places in the Keys with boat slips are favorite destinations for Floridians to come and relax. She also told me that owners that rent long term rent to locals who prefer to be near Key West but not in Key West.Cudjoe Key is located at Mile Marker 21. That is almost midway between Key West and Marathon for couples that may have jobs in either "city".

Cudjoe Key View google Map
There are a number of (perhaps apocryphal)stories of how Cudjoe got its unusual name. Many Cudjoe streets are named after either famous or amazingly obscure pirates, which might include a Mr. Cudjoe. Another story has the island described in 19th century Key West scuttlebutt as the location of ”Cousin Joe’s” woodcutting and charcoal-making place, of which there were quite a few in the Lower Keys.
Whatever its history Cudjoe is a quiet and peaceful residential island surrounding its own bay, probably the best bay in the area for water sports. The island’s fishhook appearance and bay are such distinctive features that they can be seen easily in satellite pictures.
Cudjoe Key provides a wide variety of housing ranging from ocean front executive homes to both Keys standard canal homes and some extraordinary ones, to the upscale gated mobile home park, Venture Out, on Cudjoe's eastern shore. All waterfront properties on the island, including Venture Out, have become expensive.
Nearly all the homes are on the Atlantic side of the Overseas Highway. Boating access on Cudjoe is excelent , almost no matter where you reside. Boating drafts generally range from 2-4 feet, but some canals on the fishhook are narrow and have shallow entrances to Cudjoe Bay. Eastside canals are also narrow and open onto shallow water. The more expensive Cudjoe Gardens housing area at the west end of the island has much bigger and deeper canals that will accommodate large boat
