About Daytona Beach Shores' Castaways

Can You Really Be Foolproof?

Vandals flood 4 floors of Castaways condos -that's was the title of an article published by Anne Geggis in our local newspaper about what happened to Cstaways Beach Resort, a condo-hotel in Daytona Beach Shores

Castaways, view from the streetSome pranksters last Friday hit a fire sprinkler head on the 4th floor of a condo-hotel and caused flooding from the forth floor down. It happened at about 11 PM, the front desk employees might not have known where the pump was and how they could stop the flooding, and by the time this all was figured, damage was quite extensive.

The resort was closed, guest went to other hotels, and those who live there permanently, went to a local shelter. They may open tomorrow after drying out the rooms and hallways. Electricity and water were restored on Saturday, but the city posted a note on the doors that the building is uninhabitable.

The surveillance tapes were submitted to the authorities, and the resort plans to press charges if the vandals are found. Out of 153 rooms 75 are on the rental program and they were all rented at the time of the vandalism act.

Castaways, view from the OceanThis sure ruined the vacation for the guests and disrupted life of people who live in Castaways. The resort is one of only few that allows living in the resort indefinitely, it can be your primary residence and can be homestead. It also has the most liberal pet policy, and the owners can have pets there.

We sold a few units there to people, who wanted to be right on the beach, and could not afford a much more expensive oceanfront condo. I feel sorry for them, and I feel angry that someone would do it just for fun.

I wish they get the pranksters and I would love to see their parents pay for the the cleanup. If their kids love the jokes, why not love to pay for them from their or their parents pockets?

I think that would be fair. So can you really be foolproof or we can't eradicate idiotism? At least we can try to make it costly.

I am getting a listing there today. 6th floor with great views. And dry. So, if you are fond of a deluxe oceanview studio with a stove, and you have a small dog, or you are a cat lover, I got a dry unit for you for only $58,500, the lowest price in the resort.
