Delray Beach Garlic Fest - February 12-14, 2010

The 11th Annual Delray Beach Garlic Fest will be held this Friday through Sunday February 12 - 14, 2010 in downtown Delray.  There will be all types of activities including the garlic chef competition, cooking demonstrations, specialty vendors, a children's area and musical performances by Everclear and The Wailers. 

Location:  North Swinton and Old School Square.

Hours:  Friday 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Saturday 11:00 am to 10:00 pm, Sunday 11:00 am to 7:00 pm

Gated Communities  in Delray Beach, Florida - All Age Communities - Pet Friendly Communities

 

There is a strip of Military Trail that runs along the Boca Raton/Delray Beach border known as Country Club Row.  Nestled in between the clubs are small, gated communities of single family homes, townhomes and villas.  These communities are NOT country clubs and have NO equity.  They are all age communities and pet friendly.

Ventura is one of these communities.  It is made up of single family homes with 3 bedrooms and ranging in square footage from 1779 to over 2100 square feet and priced from $ 299,000 to $ 495,000.  They offer a courtyard model in this community which is true Florida living.  There is a clubhouse, pool and tennis.  This is a pet-friendly community.

Bel Aire is another of the gated communities made up of single family homes.  They offer 3 bedrooms and range in size from 1676 square feet to over 2200 square feet.  They are priced from $ 210,000 to $ 375,000.  They have a clubhouse, pool and tennis.  This is a pet-friendly community.

Monterey Lake is made up of single-story villas with attached garages, townhomes and single family homes.   They offer 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms ranging in size from 1600 square feet to over 3000 square feet and are currently priced from $ 219,000 to $ 349,000.  There is a clubhouse, pool and tennis.  This is a pet-friendly community.

Hammock Reserve, built on what was once an orange grove (for real!) is made up of single story homes offers 3 bedroom homes ranging in size from 1576 square feet to over 2000 square feet.  Priced from $ 269,000 to $ 419,000, this is community is the largest of this group with two gated entrances making for easy access.  There is a community pool.  This is a pet-friendly community.

Addison Trace made up of single story homes and coach homes.  They offer 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms and range in size from 1600 square feet to over 2400 square feet and are priced from $ 230,000 to $ 449,900.  They also have a courtyard model in this community.  There is a clubhouse, pool, and tennis.  This is a pet-friendly community.

The condos are well laid out. They have a gated entrance, clubhouse, cards, billiards, computers, arts and crafts, exercise, library, tennis, basketball, table tennis and a pool, spa and barbeque area. Sorry, no pets allowed.

January Means Honeybells!

I'd never heard of Honeybells until moving to Florida in 1994, but once I'd had one I was hooked. Honeybells are not oranges. They are a cross between a Duncan grapefruit and a Dancy Tangerine. They are supersweet, juicy and shaped like a bell.

Honeybells only come out in January. They have a peak season of just a few weeks. If you haven't tried them, you're in for a treat. I just hope the cold snap hasn't hurt them. They're wonderful!
