I met him once at a party, Senator Ted Kennedy, that is. In hyannisPort. It was a party for him in the 1980's to mark his 25the year anniversary in the Senate. I was invited by someone who had been actually invited to the party . . in a way.
I was 19, 20 maybe. I had heard about the party the week before and decided it would be fun to go. I had been down to Hyannis many weekends and had friends there, but no one who knew the Kennedys. Still, I figured that I was sure to meet someone that weekend who had been invited. At the time, I was attending college and working part time as a legal secretary. I flew out of my law office in Salem that Friday afternoon, my suitcases already in the car and began the two hour drive. I checked into that little motel on Main street and hurried over to Harry's Bar and Grill. The Kennedy's went there sometimes, I had been told, though never when I was around for the weekends. Still,I was friends with the owners of Harry's, Eddie and Dana, and the town was overflowing for the party. I was certain to meet some invited guest, some male in need of a date for the party.
After an evening of investigation and flirting, I finally met someone going to the party . . . the caterer. He liked me a lot and agreed to take me. We had it all planned. I would go in his catering truck and then disappear into the crowd and be a guest. It worked. I sat with a group of people and explained that my date was late. I was so excited to go to the party, to the "compound." There was a large large tent set up with bars on all sides. A buffet filled with shrimp and lobster, etc. And lots of people and an orchestra and then a "roast." I had a great time. After the roast, I spied him standing talking to some people and I went up to him and said, "Hi, Ted." he turned away from his friends and looked at me, squinting at me, trying to recognize me, but, of course he didn't know me. Then he held out his hand. I did likewise. He didn't shake it, simply held it a moment and smiled into my eyes. Later in the evening, his daughter, Kara, passed me and said "Nice dress." I had only taken hours to prepare. For that 20 year old young woman, it was a thrilling evening. I wish now that I had been older, more mature, for this party, as I would have conversed with him more, discussed issues, life, philosophy. But, then again, had I been older, more mature, I probably wouldn't have crashed the party in the first place. There were no camera phones then, so I have no photos to mark that occasion, just the ones in mind.
So, thank you, Caterer. I don't remember your name. You were too busy cleaning up to drive me back to the motel. I hitched a ride with some other guests and drove home the next day and never saw you again. But, thank you.
And, rest in peace, sweet Prince, from Fort Myers Beach, Florida

I recall in my schooldays reading a required short story. It was called "Beware of the Dog." The stroy took place during World War II. An English officer, a pilot, invoved in the European campaign woke up in an English hospital surrounded by caring doctors and nurses. Yet, he felt that something was not quite right. He couldn't put his finger on it, but something was not quite right. The Royal Airforce was to arrive shortly for a debriefing but he felt that something was not quite right and he was uneasy and took himself to a window and stared out. In the distance, there was a sign and he squinted to make it out. 'Garde Au Chien." That was written upon the sign. The sign was written in French and he then realized that he was being deceived, that he was in Nazi occupied France, not England, and so when the officers of the "Royal Air Force" came for the debriefing, he only gave them his name, rank and serial number.
Translation of 'Garde Au Chien': Beware of the Dog.
This sign may be seen all over the world, including some residences on Fort Myers Beach.

A friend just sent me this joke. It has been around for awhile so for those who haven't seen this one and I have no clue as to the author !
Subject: THE DEAF WIFE
THE DEAF WIFE A man feared his wife wasn't hearing as well as she used to and he thought she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach her, he called the family Doctor to discuss the problem. The Doctor told him there is a simple informal test the husband could perform to give the Doctor a better idea about her hearing loss. Here's what you do," said the Doctor, "stand about 40 feet away from her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears you. If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and so on until you get a response." That evening, the wife is in the kitchen cooking dinner, and he was in the den. He says to himself, "I'm about 40 feet away, let's see what happens." Then in a normal tone he asks, 'Honey, what's for dinner?" No response. So the husband moves closer to the kitchen, about 30 feet from his wife and repeats, "Honey, what's for dinner?" Still no response. Next he moves into the dining room where he is about 20 feet from his wife and asks, "Honey, what's for dinner?" Again he gets no response. So, he walks up to the kitchen door, about 10 feet away. "Honey, what's for dinner?" Again there is no response. So he walks right up behind her. "Honey, what's for dinner?" (I just love this) "Ralph , for the FIFTH time, CHICKEN!"
Have a fun Sunday !

A great part of the attraction and charm of the island lays of course along its seven while sand beach but also along the numerous gulf canals which fingered the width of the island towards the back bay or Estero island. It is known as one of the safest beaches in Florida. The island goes from a modest 10,000 residents in the off season to around 30,000 in season. They then enjoy the many pubs, water holes, restaurants, hotels, Inns which are a large part of the economy of the island This is not a surprise.
FRENCH VERSION – VERSION FRANCAISE:
Fort Myers Beach ou Estero île est une île-barrière le long du Gulf du Mexique au sud-ouest de la Floride.C’est une isle completement independente. Fort Myers Beach or Estero island is a barrier island along the Gulf oF Mexico in Southwest Florida. It has only one street light but let it fool you. In 1993 Fort Myers Beach cut its ties from from Myers and became its own governing city with its own Councilmen and councilwomen, its own fire station,City Hall, police force, Library, schools, clinics, public pool and baseball park, its Art Society, Historical Society which preserves Old Cottages and its history, its tennis courts and of course its own master plan to renovate downtown Fort Myers Beach.

Summer on Fort Myers Beach means rain storms and thunder and lightning often accompany these storms. It's actually a good thing, for the storms usually last for only an hour or two, brings down the humidty and greens up the grass and reds, oranges, yellows, whites and purples up the gardens. The downside: Summer Storms mean fearful dogs. Our Pooch, Mimi, begins to tremble with just rumble in the distance. As the storm closes in, she becomes distressed, fearful. This is a common problem with dogs and so, I did a bit of research and am trying to use different techniques to help her overcome her fear of thunder and lightning.
Calm Reassurance
Some dogs need to be reassured that there is nothing to fear. If the storm makes you nervous, your dog may be picking that up. However, be careful not to inadvertently rewarding the dog for a fear reaction. If you positively reinforce fear reactions with soothing sounds or stroking when the dog exhibits fear, the reactions will continue.
By ignoring the storm and carrying on with a normal routine, you convey that the storm is no big deal. Another way to reassure the dog without reinforcing the fear reaction is to massage or brush your dog in long even strokes.
Positive Reinforcement
If your dog has a favorite indoor game, or a special treat, try to absorb him in that during the storm. Practice this during storms, and hopefully the dog will eventually associate the storm with good things.
Sound and More Sounds
Put on the tv and radio. Surround your dog with sounds so that one sound will not be more distressing than another.
Meds may be necessary if the pooch goes to a level of fear that cannot be dealt with by other methods.
