Polk County, FL - Lake Ashton, a Florida retirement community in Lake Wales held an event on Saturday, May 10^th, 2008 that grossed just under $15,000 for a charity that has been serving the community for more than 50 years.

Achievement Academy is a non-profit organization that helps and supports individuals with developmental disorders. The organization was started in 1955 as part of United Cerebral Palsy, but has since expanded to include anybody with developmental delay. Achievement Academy has locations in Bartow, Lakeland and Winter Haven. And because it has delivered services to individuals in Polk County for 50 years, Lake Ashton collected a passionate and hard working group to support the cause and plan the event.

Academy's First Annual Country-Western Round-up Fundraiser was a western-themed BBQ hosted by Lake Aston to create awareness and collect donations for Achievement Academy. The event featured the Treasurer of the Achievement Academy Board, John Scott, who represented the organization, spoke at the event, and answered questions throughout the evening.

The event also features The Lake Ashton Shufflin' Squares, a group of talented square dancers and their Presidents, Freda and Clyde Kitts. The Shuffin' Squares were among square dancers from Polk County to provide entertainment at the Academy's First Annual Country-Western Round-up Fundraiser.

"The Shufflin' Squares were pleased and proud to be a part of the fund-raising event for the Achievement Academy, " says Clyde.

Festivities started with a Bar-B-Q meal served under the spreading oaks of the Higgenbotham Ranch, then moved to the bard for line and square dancing. Shufflin' Squares demonstrated moves of modern western dancing and taught the more novice dancers some beginner steps. Most of the guests participated in the easy square dances, the Virginia Reel, and line dances including the Electric Slide.

Lake Ashton was very happy with the turn out and the success of the fundraiser. The Florida Retirement Community plans to make the event an annual event and states that the Academy's Second Annual Country-Western Round-up Fundraiser will be in early May of 2009.
