Time for more of Lake Worth's Projects. This one is the Snook Islands Natural Area. It is in the Lake Worth Lagoon and consists of several small islands that were built to restore marine habitats lost to dredging. The islands were completed some time ago but the boardwalk and fishing pier are just now underway.
This is posted near the construction area and is also available online at, http://www.co.palm-beach.fl.us/erm/lakes/estuarine/snook/. At the bottom of the page is a link to this as a PDF.
As you can see here, most of the work is being done on the water. This pic was taken from the Lake Worth Bridge that runs from town over the intra-coastal waterway to the beach.
The work seems to be moving along at a good clip. Many of the concrete piers are in the ground already and more are being added vary quickly.
The project, when completed, will have a kayak launch area, dockage for small boats, the fishing pier and a boardwalk viewing area. Stay tuned to this blog for more information and pictures as work nears completion.
