There's something special about Duke's Famous BBQ and it isn't just the fact that it is the best barbecue in the Middleburg FL area. It's Duke himself and the friendly staff. It's the famous desserts cooked up in the kitchen right at Duke's Famous BBQ.

Duke's Famous BBQ has two convenient locations.

The original location for Middleburg's best barbecue is 2851 Henley Road in Lake Asbury in the shopping center at the corner of Sandridge Road. Phone 904-291-6147

Open 11am-8:30pm Sunday-Thursday, 11am-9:30pm Friday & Saturday, Breakfast Saturday & Sunday 7:30-11:00am

The other location is 2574 County Road 220 in the shopping center at the corner of College Drive. Fleming Island residents, this is your best location for some of the best barbecue in the Orange Park and Middleburg areas. Phone 904-298-3877

Open 11am-8:30pm Sunday-Thursday, 11am-9:30pm Friday & Saturday, Breakfast Sunday 9:00-11:00am

The 220 Location also has a Private Room for up to 70 people if you want a private party or meeting.

The homemade pies are so scrumptious that the Chocolate Pecan Pie won First Place for Duke's Famous BBQ in a Local American Pie Contest on the 4th of July 2008. Duke said he entered, but didn't realize they had won. A Blue Ribbon poster on the wall attests to the prize. The pie is so popular that the last one had been snatched away before we took our photos today. Note to self: Visit again soon for sample of award-winning pie!

The menu at Duke's Famous BBQ has a variety of offerings - Appetizers, "Famous" Family Feasts, for one to eight people, Platters, Sandwiches, Wings, a Lite-Menu and Kids' Meals. There are also Daily Specials at the Middleburg restaurants. The Side Items have an unusual choice we want to try next time we go - fried corn on the cob. Ever heard of that? I was going to snap a photo of our BBQ sandwiches - but we were too hungry and forgot - gulp! Oh well, the pies are prettier anyway :)

The atmosphere is casual and comfortable with picnic-style tables and seating.

Prices are reasonable - ranging from $3.99 for a 1/4 lb. hot dog to $33.99 for a Chicken & Rib Feast that feeds 4-5 people.

There are seven choices of barbecue sauce at Duke's Famous BBQ: Original - Classic - Gold (Mustard-based) - Hickory Smoked - Sweet - Honey - Hot. Do you want to know a secret? Duke has two other hot hot sauces he keeps in the back - X and XX. Try them if you dare.

Duke's Famous BBQ will cater within 100 miles of their restaurants. They have three ways to do it - 1. Pick up 2. Drop off 3. Let them do everything. Duke says he won't be undersold. Call 904-291-6147 for information.

Duke worked with the Winn-Dixie Corporation before founding Duke's Famous BBQ. He is a friendly, hands-on owner who is usually at the Lake Asbury location whenever we visit. (Frank kindly took this photo of Duke and me.)
