Congressman Jeff Miller Questions Proposed Air Force Test And Evaluation Cuts
Washington, DC - U.S. Congressman Jeff Miller (R-FL-01) today inserted language into the National Defense Authorization Act that reinforces Congress' support for the Test and Evaluation mission in the Department of Defense.
"This language makes it crystal clear that Congress does not want the Air Force Test and Evaluation Mission to be compromised," said Miller. "This is a Northwest Florida issue, but it is also a national security issue."
Congressman Miller attached language to the 2010 National Defense Authorization Act that reinforces the Director of the Test Resource Management Center's access to Air Force information before a move of or cut in the Test and Evaluation missions can take place. Further report language in the bill notes that the 2010 funding for Test and Evaluation is $57.9 million below last year's level and notes that such a lack of funding could "negatively impact numerous critical Department of Defense programs." "Eglin has assets that are not replicated anywhere else," Miller added.
"It took forty years and hundreds of millions of dollars to create the most advance test facilities in the world. It doesn't make good sense, for the military or the taxpayer, to make a short-sighted, knee-jerk funding decision when we are funding billions in bailouts."
The FY 2010 National Defense Authorization Act must still be taken up by the full House Armed Services Committee. The Committee is expected to take up the measure later this month.

This past Monday, June 15, people around the world will were celebrating Global Wind Day.
The Global Wind Energy Council thought up the idea to give people around the world an opportunity to show their support for wind energy, and to highlight wind power not only as a real solution to global climate change, but also to highlight the economic benefits of investment in wind power such as high quality green jobs. There will be thousands of simultaneous celebrations going on in more than 25 countries around the world.
"In the United States, Global Wind Day comes at a time when the nation is surging forward in wind and renewable energy development, but risks losing this momentum and leaving tens of thousands of jobs on the cutting room floor if we do not adopt a strong renewable energy policy," said Denise Bode, CEO of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). "America trails China and Europe in passing renewable energy policy commitments. It's time for a national renewable electricity standard (RES) here in the U.S. to seize this historic opportunity to create jobs, build up our renewable energy industry, and fight climate change."
Wind energy supporters can join AWEA's call for an RES through a number of events and activities on Global Wind Day, click here for details.
To mark the occasion Renewable Energy Jobs is offering all employers and recruiters around the world the opportunity to post wind energy jobs free of charge. To post your wind energy jobs please contact sam@renewableenergyjobs.com for more details.
