Blast from the past concert in Ormond Beach Florida
Last night I attended the Blast from the past concert in Ormond Beach Florida. This was a benefit concert with proceeds going to the Vietnam Veterans of America chapter 1048. Vietnam Veterans of America goals are to promote and support the full range of issues important to Vietnam Veterans, to create a new identity for this generation of Veterans, and to change public perception of Vietnam Veterans.
Performers donated their time to help the veterans group and their many causes.
The show was hosted by Dave O’Dell, a local radio personality with 31 years of broadcast experience.
First to perform was Vince Cautero, who performs locally and has a rich music history that began as a cast member of the Broadway show “Willow Tree” with Tony Perkins. Vince sang some great old songs by Sinatra and Bennett and others.
Next up was the Palm Coast Swing Band playing hits from the big band era with a couple of vocals and performances by swing dancers Jason and McKenzie. Their MC gave some Vietnam War history and some history and background for each song which was very interesting.
The headliners for the concert and the final act was the Knights to Remember, a local oldies review group who performed some Doo Wop and oldies favorites. Each of the 5 members of the group has a long history of performing Doo Wop and Rock and Roll and each sings the lead as well as being back-up. The group was joined by guest vocalist Siobhan Daly for the final few songs and she added a new dimension to their chemistry. Check their web site for bios and their upcoming schedule. http://knightstoremember.com
A huge crowd at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center thoroughly enjoyed the show and many took the time after the show to meet the performers, get autographs and buy the latest Knights to Remember CD.
I love listening to these old songs but something special is added when you attend a live performance.
