Blast from the past concert in Ormond Beach Florida

Last night I attended the Blast from the past concert in Ormond Beach Florida. This was a benefit concert with proceeds going to the Vietnam Veterans of America chapter 1048. Vietnam Veterans of America goals are to promote and support the full range of issues important to Vietnam Veterans, to create a new identity for this generation of Veterans, and to change public perception of Vietnam Veterans.
Performers donated their time to help the veterans group and their many causes.
The show was hosted by Dave O’Dell, a local radio personality with 31 years of broadcast experience.
First to perform was Vince Cautero, who performs locally and has a rich music history that began as a cast member of the Broadway show “Willow Tree” with Tony Perkins. Vince sang some great old songs by Sinatra and Bennett and others.Palm Coast Swing Band
Next up was the Palm Coast Swing Band playing hits from the big band era with a couple of vocals and performances by swing dancers Jason and McKenzie. Their MC gave some Vietnam War history and some history and background for each song which was very interesting.

The headliners for the concert and the final act was the Knights to Remember, a local oldiesKnights to Remember, review group who performed some Doo Wop and oldies favorites. Each of the 5 members of the group has a long history of performing Doo Wop and Rock and Roll and each sings the lead as well as being back-up. The group was joined by guest vocalist Siobhan Daly for the final few songs and she added a new dimension to their chemistry. Check their web site for bios and their upcoming schedule. http://knightstoremember.com
A huge crowd at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center thoroughly enjoyed the show and many took the time after the show to meet the performers, get autographs and buy the latest Knights to Remember CD.
I love listening to these old songs but something special is added when you attend a live performance.

Ormond Beach Doo Wop show a big hit

Ormond Beach Doo Wop show a big hit

A friend of mine, Alan Klem, is into the Doo Wop scene and helps Richard Nader Productions with their shows by distributing fliers and spreading the word around town for the shows. Alan’s effort gets him free access back stage and to meet all the performers.Legends of Doo Wop Alan also has me blog about the shows and I also did a press release so I was invited to attend the show with him. It was a real treat getting to hang with The Legends of Doo Wop and all the performers back stage prior to the show and to meet each of them.

Friday January 6, 2012 at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center in Ormond Beach, Florida the DOO WOP & ROCK N’ ROLL show was a big hit with almost a full house ( maybe it was full). All the performers and the band put on a great show.

ReministyxThe show began at 7:30PM sharp just as advertised with a great performance by the local group, Reministyx. They were excellent, performing many songs originally done by groups in the 50’s and 60’s including a tribute to 1960’s girl groups.

Nobody knows the next performer, Sonny Geraci but when he sings one of his best hits, "Precious and Few", you would say oh yeah. Sonny was terrific as he performed some of his greatest hits along with other tunes from the old days of Rock ‘n Roll.Sonny Geraci

Last on the agenda was the Legends of Doo Wop, which includes Tony Passa of the Fascinators, Tommy Mara current lead singer of the Crests, Steve Horn of the 5 Sharks and Frank Mancuso of the Imaginations. We enjoyed some great Doo Wop and Rock N’ Roll favorites at this special evening of memories including a tribute to our military men and women and a special thank you call out to Vietnam veterans.

Tommy MaraThe good news is they are already talking about coming back next year around the same time so check your calendar and be ready to get out for a magical evening of solid gold Doo Wop and Rock N’ Roll hits with the legends of Doo Wop.

Sitting in the front row right at the stage gave me the opportunity to get some photos of the performers.
