Ozona, FL

Where in earth is Ozona Florida? Well, according to the local tax rolls, it has been incorporated into the town of Palm Harbor Florida! Ozona is actually west of Palm Harbor and south of Crystal Beach, right on the Gulf of Mexico. It is here that you will find the Ozona Pig - THE place for the best barbeque around!

Ron & I went there for an early dinner last night and had fantastic barbeque pork sandwiches with cole slaw! The sandwiches were out of this world!

And here is my Ronnie at the Ozona Pig waiting for our dinner to be served! A few facts about Ozona: it is one of the oldest communities in Pinellas County, originally settled in 1877 by JC Craver and called Bay St Joseph (the water along the shores of Ozona and Crystal Beach is called St Joseph's Sound), the town's name was changed to Yellow Bluff shortly thereafter.

Located directly across the street from the post office, the Ozona Pig is easy to find! It is a fitting name since an island directly off these shores used to be called Pig Island!

Right next to the post office is the Ohana Cafe! Another local place to stop by for lunch! I have heard from the gals at the post office that this place is also great!

The little shop next door has unique scarfs, incense and other eclectic items! If you are in Ozona be sure to check these wonderful local establishments out!!!

By the way, beside hickory smoked pork sandwiches, there are wonderful ribs and hickory smoked chicken! You can also order a hickory smoked ham or turkey for the holidays!! You really need to check out the Ozona Pig and the other quaint shops and restaurants in Ozona Florida.

Remember, Ozona is a little south of Crystal Beach and to the west of Palm Harbor.... although technically speaking, it has been incorporated into the town of Palm Harbor Florida.

Ozona Florida is just down the street from where I live in Crystal Beach. Both communities are directly on the Gulf of Mexico and both offer absolutely wonderful housing opportunities! Imagine living either directly on the Gulf of Mexico or within a couple of blocks from the Gulf! What could possibly top that?

Living that close to the tropical waters of the Gulf of Mexico means not only mild winters but cool breezes during those hot summer months! While those in the interior of the state are melting due to the summer heat, there is always a breeze blowing here on the Gulf Coast in Ozona Florida!

Ozona is incorporated into the town of Palm Harbor Florida!

What better way to spend the Labor Day Holiday then going fishing??? That is exactly what we did yesterday afternoon. It did not last long, about 3 hours, until we saw the DARK rain clouds rolling in from the Gulf of Mexico. So we packed up and were home before the lightening started cracking all around!

But those three hours were picture perfect! Ron caught a large trout (19 inches) and let it go again. It was really fat and he figured it was a pregnant female so he released her back into St Josephy's Sound. Before that he battled a cobia for a half hour! As he started to get it close and we could see this beautiful fish which was well over 3 feet long, it broke the line. It would have been great to have been able to photograph it, which is what we wanted to do. It would have been released again, but we would have had that photo.

Oh well, there will be another cobia in our future!!! Hope everyone else is having a wonderful Labor Day holiday!!!
