Welcome to beautiful Casey Key in Nokomis, Florida. Just south of Sarasota, this slice of paradise is Florida's best kept secret. So if you don't mind, let's just keep it between us.
Many of the homes on this 8-mile stretch of gorgeous white, powdery sand include beach-to-bay ownership, providing spectacular gulf and bay views on a island no more than 300 yards wide. Casey Key provides more than enough room for beautiful single-family homes on winding roads, cutting through the lush tropics that compliment the island. While zoning restrictions ban the building of high-rise condos, only a few mom and pop motels exist today, making Casey Key one of the most untainted keys in the area.
This fantastic island maintains an “old Florida” charm, though there are magnificent estate-style homes here. You can find beach cottages but you can also find one-of-a-kind luxury homes on private, walled superbly landscaped lots. While Casey Key is a smaller key with a quieter lifestyle and no traffic lights, you are still close to all that the larger communities of Sarasota and Venice have to offer. Casey Key has remained one of Florida’s best-kept secrets but word about the beauty and privacy of the key has leaked out enough to attract people from all over the world, including a few celebrities.
Just a short drive to the mainland, and you are near some of Sarasota’s best amenities, including Oscar Scherer Park, a favorite destination for those who love hiking, camping, and canoeing. The Legacy walking and biking trail, a 30-mile trail that spans much of Sarasota and runs all the way to the Venice Train Depot, is just minutes away. Shopping, dining, and entertainment venues are equally minutes away in either direction once you are off the key. At a short drive or boat ride, Venice Beach is a popular spot for young and old alike. There, you’ll find the Venice Fishing Pier, a 700-foot pier perfect for fishing of watching the gorgeous sunsets. If you’d rather enjoy the view, go to Sharky’s on the Pier, located, as the name suggests, directly on the pier. There is no fee to enjoy the pier, either as a spectator or a fisherman. No fishing license is required on the pier either. Make a day of it and enjoy the nearby picnic shelters and volleyball courts as well. Make your way down the beach to Casperson Beach where there is no development and miles of beautiful, sandy beach views. One section of the beach, called Paw Park, is the perfect, dedicated spot to bring your “best friend” and meet other dogs and dog owners.
Venice Beach is also known as the “Shark’s Tooth Capital of the World,” and you’ll often see locals and tourists alike digging in the sand to add to their collection. There is something about the currents and wave patterns that bring these triangular treasures to the shores by the hundreds. There is even an annual Sharks Tooth Festival features music, food, and more than 100 artists.
