Construction has been underway on the new Sarasota Costco since December of 2011. While we don't have an exact date for the Sarasota Costco opening, we do know that the company is shooting for the Summer of 2012.
The Sarasota Costco location will be adding approximately 200 jobs to the local economy at their new 145,000 square foot warehouse. It will be attached to Westfield Sarasota Square Mall at the site of the former Dillard's on Palmer Ranch.

There is still no public word about when Costco will begin demolition of the old Dillards store at Westfield Sarasota Square Mall in order to start construction of their new Sarasota Costco. That being said, I drove by over the weekend after attending the 2011 Crystall Classic Master Sand Sculpting Competition on Siesta Key and noticed that there is some pre-demo activity taking place. The photos below were taken on Sunday and it looks to me like the Sarasota Costco in Palmer Ranch may finally begin construction soon.

The long awaited construction work for a new Lowe's on Palmer Ranch will finally commence. Original plans had the construction starting some four years ago but the downturn in the economy caused the home improvement giant to hold off plans until now.
The Lowe's on Palmer Ranch will be located on Central Sarasota Parkway between the formerAlbertson's store and the Bella Villino condominiums.
120 jobs are reported to be created when the opens which could be as soon as next January. Nearby residents will be pleased that they will no longer have to drive some 20 minutes to get to a large retail hardware store. Home Depot is currently the closest such store and is located next to the Super Walmart on Cattleman between Bee Ridge and Proctor. There is also a Lowe's store located at Fruitville and Cattleman. The new Lowe's on Palmer Ranch is a welcome addition.
