I have been so busy with showing properties and writing contracts, so before I became insane, my husband and I took time off for ourselves. While walking around we found this dog in front of the store which looked after the business.

From November 2011 through early May 2012, the free exhibition of “Under Azure Skies” features works by 10 artists at Sarasota Bayfront Park is Sarasota Season of Sculpture (SSoS) in Sarasota FL

The art work is made of natural materials. This is the sixth season. Free docent-guided tours are available which are offered by SSoS.

Orchids from Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota FL

I have a special attraction to orchids, roses and other plants, because when I was young my mother had a beautiful flower garden with many orchids, roses, and flowers with a variety of colors. I took some pictures of Orchids from Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota FL to share with you all.

Orchid (Orchidaceae family) is native throughout Southeast Asia. It is easily recognized because it lacks a woody stem; flower is vigorous and has distinctive characteristics, and simple leaves with parallel veins. It is a perennial plant, mostly used as an ornament, worn as a corsage or used in flower arrangements. Orchid plants like fish water as a fertilizer.

The following are some orchids from Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota FL – 811 South Palm Avenue.

Angraecum eburneum ssp. superbum – grows in hot and damp tropical woodlands. No special attention or care is required.

Brassocattleya Deesses Charles

Brassolaeliocattleya – is a hybrid from 3 species of orchid which are Brassavola R Br., Cattleya Lindl. and Laelia Lindl.

Cattleya is from tropical South America to Costa Rico. This hybrid specie of orchid is used extensively for the flower arrangement business.

Coryanthes – bucket orchid is a tropical epiphytic orchid; it evolved with orchid bees and depends on each other for reproduction.

Dendrobium amethystoglossum – it grows on mossy and limestone cliffs in Luzon Philippines. Clustered flowers are produced on leafless cane like stems

Dendrobium bigibbum – found in elevations below 1400 meters in Australia and Papua New Guinea. This is a commercial collector’s favorite. Color varies from pinkish to lavender or purple and sometimes white.

Dendrobium Loddigesii – this plant is native to Hong Kong, Laos and southern China.

Epiphyte orchid – living on trees but not parasitic

Paphiopedilum or slipper orchid – is a collectible plant because it’s flower has an unusual shape. Native to India, South China, South East Asia and Pacific Islands.
