Siesta Key Crystal Classic Master Sandsculpting Competition held at America's #1 beach, Siesta Key Beach. The Second Annual Siesta Key Crystal Classic Sandsculpting Competition was held this past weekend on beautiful Siesta Key Beach. The weather was made to order and couldn't have been more picture-perfect.

Siesta Key Beach has been officially named the #1 beach in the United States and is the inspired location for this incredible competition. The competition was a wonderful way to enjoy this spectacular beach, and money raised from the competition goes to the Mote Marine Laboratory's effort to save our endangered sea turtles through conservation and research.

The five day event was held over Veteran's Day Weekend and inspired the Iwo Jima flag-raising sand sculpture to honor veterans of all military branches. The wide, expansive beach is like no other in the world and is considered a treasured place for all Sarasotans!

The white quartz, powdery soft sand of Siesta Key Beach made for excellent sand sculpting. Twenty-four competitors from the United States and around the world created these fantastic and imaginative sculptures which culminated in an Awards Ceremony which took place on Sunday afternoon.

The sculptures were left standing for continued viewing all day Monday. Afterwards these amazing creations will be bulldozed back to beach sands.

The Siesta Key Crystal Classic Master Sandsculpting Competition is just one more event in a season of innumerable events throughout the Sarasota Area. There is no other place on earth like the Sarasota Area, what a wonderful place to live.

A Day of Fun in the Sun at Siesta Key Beach

Beach season is definitely in full swing here in Sarasota! Look at all the people at Siesta Key beach!

I couldn't believe how many people were already hitting the beach, but I guess it is that time again. What better place to go than Siesta Key beach, which is world famous for its soft, pure white sand that stays cool underfoot even in the hot Florida sun. In 2010 this beach was named #1 in Florida, and #2 in America by "Dr. Beach."

On May 7, the annual Sand Sculpture contest will be held on Siesta Key beach, starting at 9 am. Prizes are to be awarded in the categories of Adult Humorous, Adult Miscellaneous, Children 10 and under and Youth 11-17. For more information, check out all of the Sarasota events.
