Incorporated in 1927 South Miami is approximately three square miles making South Miami one of the oldest municipalities. WYNWOOD ART DISTRICT OF MIAMI
At fellow ActiveRainer Pam Hill's suggestion, I visited the Wynwood Art District on my recent trip to Miami. We arrived on a Sunday, not realizing all the art galleries and other storefronts would be closed. (Are there blue laws in Miami??)
No matter, I saw exactly what I wanted to see and document and had lots of fun and excitmement on my drive around the neighborhood. The Wynwood Art District is located about 10 minutes from South Beach. It is a neighborhood in the midst of gentrification - a mix of old and new with a decidedly hip hop vibe.
We were lucky enough to arrive at one location just minutes after the young artist from the Ukraine had finished his masterpiece. I'm only sorry I didn't write down his name. Several people were taking pictures of his work. I engaged one photographer in conversation who said the pictures were for a book in the making.
On my recent post regarding the movie, Contagion, the question was raised about whether graffiti has been elevated to a true art form? From the following photographs, I think you'll have no trouble agreeing with me that the answer is a resounding "yes."

Ever since June 12th, when the South Florida Business Journal (SFBJ) reported that the Oak Lane townhouse development was the target of a foreclosure lawsuit, the fate of the development had been up in the air. Oak Lane is a 40 unit luxury townhouse development located on the east side of Red Road between 74th and 76th street. Originally, the development loan was granted by the now defunct Colonial Bank. The loan was later absorbed by B&T under the FDIC's loss share agreement with the distressed assets of Colonial Bank. According to the SFBJ, BB&T subsequently sold and assigned the note to Bridgeloan investors. Approximately one month after the original foreclosure filing, on July 2nd, the SFBJ further reported that Bridgeloan Investors had won a foreclosure judgment against the original developer and was now in control of the project.
So what does all of this mean? Conceivably, this could be very good news to potential buyers. Since the Oak Lane property is no longer a part of an active litigation, closings can once again resume. While only a handful of the 40 planned units have been fully completed and provided with a Certificate of Occupancy, it is rumored that most of the units are nearing completion and are "designer ready". According to the MLS, there are 17 active units listed for sale and 14 units pending sale. These tri-level townhomes include 3 bedrooms with 2.5 to 4 bathrooms, and range from approximately 2,900 - 3,400 sq.ft. of living area. I have toured a completed unit and was very impressed with the quality of the features.
