The Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association will hold it's first quarterly meeting for 2009 on January 27th at 7 pm at the Seminole Heights United Methodist on the Corner of Hanna and Central Avenues. Come and learn about what is happening in Tampa's largest neighborhood association, Old Seminole Heights covers several sq miles and has nearly 550 members.
Guest speakers for the quarterly meeting will include:
David Bryant, presentation on the new Tampa Museum of Art
Dianne Patterson, on the new pre-school program at The Learning Center, at John Calvin Presbyterian Church
Robin Milcowitz, Seminole Heights Community Garden project
In addition, I am sure there will be news about the 11th Annual Home tour.

Tuesday, July 22nd is the Quarterly meeting for the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association (OSHNA). This will be the 9th year that the the summer meeting will be a covered dish neighborhood get together. OSHNA provides the drinks, utensils, plates, ham and turkey. Those attending bring a covered dish to share. Pot luck is interesting and adds to the chatter.
If you are in Old Seminole Heights and your last name begins with A-M, please bring a salad or dessert. If it begins with N-Z, bring your favorite side dish or vegetable. Of course if your specialty does not coincide with your place on the alphabet no one will complain about trying your specialty.
The July meeting is also when nominations for next year's board open. OSHNA has the largest voluntary membership of any neighborhood group in the city of Tampa, with about 575 dues paying members.
The meeting will be held in the basement of the Seminole Heights United Methodist Church at the corner of Hanna and Central. Begins at 6:30 pm
Guests presentors for the metting include:
Joe Stines, Director of the Hillsborough County Library System - Will present information about the planned replacement library for Seminole Heights Branch.
Carrie Hurst, Seminole Heights Library Branch Head - Will share information about services at the current library and provide opportunity to sign up for a library card.
W. Ward Cox, Administrator, For The Family, Inc. - Informational presentation on Shelter Is Golden, a volunteer program which enables caring people to safely and conveniently assist evacuees from a Category 1 or Category 2 storm, or other natural disaster.

This coming Tuesday evening (April 22nd) is the quarterly meeting of OSHNA. For those who don't know OSHNA is the largest voluntary neighborhood association in the city of Tampa with nearly 600 members. The guest speaker for this meeting will be from the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections to talk about preparations for the upcoming elections.
The meeting begins at 7pm at the Seminole Heights United Methodist Church, Basement, 6111 N Central Ave (on the corner of Hanna and Central)
If you haven't been involved, this is a great way to get to know your neighbors, an stay informed about issues and events in Old Seminole Heights...the Home tour...the movie...commercial redevelopment...

Over the past 9 years dozen of Old Seminole Heights neighbors have opened their doors to thousands of visitors to this historic neighborhood in the heart of Tampa. This Sunday, April 6th continues the tradition. This year is a bit of a retrospective, the homes are all drawn from past tours. Some were sorely in need of renovation during their first appearance. This annual event introduces over a 1,000 vistors to the charm, history, and the character that is Seminole Heights. Seminole Heights is home to two National Register Historic Districts: Seminole Heights and Hampton Terrace.
As alway the tour begins at the Seminole Heights Garden Center located at 5800 N. Central Avenue. Tickets in advance can be ordered on-line at http://www.oldseminoleheights.com or a Sherry's Yesterdaze, 5301 N. Florida Avenue and Tampa Antiquarian Bookstore, 6116 N. Central Avenue for $10.00
Tickets the day of the tour are $12.00. The tour is open from 11:30 am until 5:30 pm.
