Credit card companies have become more and more difficult to deal with - increasing interest rates, often times for no reason. I have had people tell me that they were making their payments on time on all of their accounts, and yet still interest rates have been adjusted increasing their payments each month. However, if you are considering a home purchase or a car purchase, you may want to rethink your time frame in making a change in your credit card account.

If you close the account, a lender may have a sneaking suspicion that the credit card company was the one that closed the account, not you -- this action on your part can lower your credit score and affect your ability to get a loan on a new home or a car loan.

When you are considering a home purchase, please, please, please carefully spend money in your account. It is a bad idea to make any large purchases either on credit, or out of your checking or savings account. If you had a couple thousand in an account and then shortly before closing on the home you spend $2K on a new guitar or other item, it can cause extreme scruting by the loan underwriter and may cause your loan to be declined right before closing.
