Thanks to volunteers, 5 amazing pilots and countless others, 47 dogs and 7 cats were saved January 6th, 2010 from a kill shelter in Cartersville, GA to saftey in Tampa, FL. I had the amazing experience of being one of the two transporters from their arrival in Ocala, FL to Tampa Bay, FL Tampa Bay Humane Society where all of the dogs, puppies, kittens and cats are now available for adoption:

I recently visited Big Cat Rescue at 12802 Easy Street in Tampa, Florida. What a great visit! The tour was guided by an extremely knowledgeable volunteer. These cats are gorgeous. And BCR's own Scott Lope was just named Animal Planet's HERO OF THE YEAR. That's big, folks. Congratulations to Scott!

There were so many cats - white tigers, ligers, ocelots, and lions who really roared. It would be so educational to take your children on one of these tours. They could learn about the difference between sanctuaries and zoos and the exotic animal crisis in our world.

Census Bureau data shows that the median size of a new single-family home in the United States shrank to 2,215 square feet in 2008 from 2,277 square feet the year before.

The change represents the first decrease in median size in almost 14 years, as single-family housing had been growing larger on a consistent basis since 1991.

Many people are opting for smaller homes as many are being more conservative in their spending, being somewhat influenced probably by the stock market, retirement concerns, etc.

Part of the reason for this shift is also because the sales market is being driven largely by first-time homebuyers, who lean toward townhouses and other smaller properties. Moreover, many of today's consumers see smaller homes as a good fit with their environmental and ecological values.

In response to the trend toward less space, nearly nine of 10 builders polled by the National Association of Home Builders are erecting smaller units. This is a smart decision. Home builders are keeping their finger on the pulse of the spending habits and concerns of consumers.
