I am going to introduce some of the more interesting places to live in and around Atlanta. First up is the multi-award winning Glenwood Park.
If you’re looking to live Intown Atlanta and not far from downtown (2 miles), you’ll definitely want to consider Glenwood Park. A fairly new urban development, with its first homes built in 2004, there are still a few opportunities to christen out-of-the-ground, brand new homes. The 350 residences that make up Glenwood Park include every conceivable housing type and just as many elevations (exterior designs).
This mixed use community is a multi-award winning brownfield redevelopment composed of a collection of eye-pleasing single family city-homes, luxurious condos, brownstone-inspired townhomes (with classic stoops), live-work units, apartments and a collection of small shops and eateries. It is a city within a city. The homes are well designed, the landscape is aesthetic and the community is reminiscent of an old town square, complete with a fountain that is the focus of a central square-like gathering place around which the community is built.
This is an Earthcraft certified development where all homes are green built with high quality construction. Some of the homes enjoy breathtaking Atlanta skyline views. With richly detailed trim and designs patterned in southern vernacular, you’ll feel at home with just about everything you need at your footsteps.
Onsite amenities include a junior Olympic-sized resort-style membership pool, a community garden, a Bocce Ball court and a playground area with park. You may not readily recognize names like The Smoothie Studio, The Shed, The Matador Mexican Cantina or Vickery’s, but living at Glenwood Park offers you a chance to sample these onsite eateries, as well as a fitness center, dentist, cleaners, nail salon and coffee shop. Many things you need are a short stroll to the corner or within minutes from your front door. And if you live at Glenwood Park, you don’t have to get on an expressway to get downtown. You can go through the side streets for a scenic, nonstressful commute.
Things I don’t like about Glenwood Park:

Things I like about Glenwood Park:

Overall, Glenwood Park is an impressive urban development with enough variety and quality to appeal to anyone who wants to live Intown but who also wants a suburban subdivision feel. Its remarkable appeal is that of a city within a city which provides an excellent place to live, work and play. With prices reduced from highs of $850,000 for city-homes (and $450,000 for townhomes), there are chances opening now to get into the community through a short sale or foreclosure and save $100,000 -$300,000 off the prices from the not too distant glory days.
