Colbert, Ga (pronounced call-bert) is a small town in Madison County, about 11 miles from downtown Athens. The

incorporated town itself is small with a population of less than 600, with an area of less than 1 square mile. However, the Colbert, Ga zip code, 30628, covers a much larger area, almost 45 square miles, including parts of adjacent Oglethorpe County with a population of over 5200.

The old railway passenger station is still in use today. It no longer serves as a platform for passengers to embark onto or disembark off of trains but is used for community functions. A caboose from the old Seaboard Coast Line stands in a small park next door to the old station. The old freight terminal is now a local pharmacy.

Across the street from the passenger terminal is the old downtown. The buildings are all old brick, some colorfully painted and still decorated with old advertizing and other signs. A few of the buildings are still in use.
