The Athens Area Association of Realtors is entering 2 teams into this years 3 Day 60 Mile Walk supporting the Susan G Komen Foundation funding breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment. The walk will take place Oct. 23 - 25.
AAAR has set a goal of raising over $70,000 this year and we still need your support. The teams have been training for several months and are eager to go this weekend.

In Athens -Clarke County, GA, for the week ending Oct. 11, 2009 the real estate market looks like this:
There are 1557 active listings of which 1287 are residential, 17 are farm and land. This is decrease of 6 listings from the previous reporting period.
There are 161 listings under contract. This number is up 6 from the previous period.
There have been 7 closed sales duiring the period of Oct. 5 - Oct. 11, 2009, all of which were residential. This is down 14 closed transactions from the previous period.

Numbers in the Athens, GA Real Estate market are down, but it could be worse, according to a recent report by Forbes Magazine.
The study says that cities that are attracting the most new residents in this slow market are college towns because of the educated population and youthful nature of the area.
In contrast, the areas that were cited as being the least desirable were Detroit (the obvious) and a few less obvious selections – New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Bank of America is working with an outside company to get their short sale offers handled faster. This is great news! I have worked on several Bank of America short sales but recently lost one due to the slooow response to the offer. The buyer got tired of waiting and withdrew the offer before we could get a response from the bank. I know they are overwhelmed with requests for loan modifications and short sales but if they can't handle them, nobody wins.
I am very hopeful that this new development will make a big difference in processing short sales. It is to the benefit of everyone for the bank to accept reasonable offers on properties that are near foreclosure. There are definate rules for getting a home sold by short sale but if followed, this process can keep a homeowner from foreclosure and keep the loss for the lender to a minimum.
