About Putnam County, GA

Night Watch- sounds like a good show to me

Tammy Lankford- lake sinclair (central Georgia): Real Estate Brokerage in Eatonton, GA

I'm an avid reader and mystery is my genre of choice. So when I found out that the Putnam Alliance of Performing Arts (PAPA) is also doing a play that's a who done it around my birthday I now feel a little torn about what to see. Both perhaps.

After all this production will be at the Plaza and it holds sentimental memories for me too. I was so excited when I found out that the grammar school auditorium where I performed on stage was being turned into a theater for the Plaza. In fact the teacher I credit the most for my love of books taught me 3rd grade here and read the class the adventures of Pippi Longstocking. I think I've always had my next book ready to read since then.

Of course some of you local folks may not know that the First Baptist Church sanctuary was burned in 1978 and for a few years while we were rebuilding we also attended church services in that auditorium. I heard many sermons in that room. And I well remember the Sunday that we met there and walked to our new sanctuary down the stree to the cheers of the congregations of the neighboring churches.

So I think I'm going to have to see Night Watch by Lucille Fletcher that promises suspense from the start and an unexpected twist at the end. I always try to solve early, I wonder if I'll be able to.

You want to see it too? Want to see what else is happening soon at the Plaza? The summer concert on the lawn series will be starting real soon. And don't forget the Old School History Museum housed there too.

Lake Sinclair- a great place to live because there's always something close by to do.

Things to do around Lake Sinclair- Photography Exhibition

If you live at Lake Sinclair you can always find something to do. This spring is no exception. I read about this show and exhibition a little late to consider an entry myself. But maybe next year. After all I do love to go around Putnam County with my camera snapping photos everywhere.

The Plaza Arts Center is the place where the entries can be viewed for the 2012 contest. The public exhibition will be open from March 17 until March 25, 2012. And if you too are interested in participating next year, you can check back on the link above for information about the contest for 2013.

I love events at the Plaza. It's a special place in our town and in my heart. I went to school there. It was my grammar school back in the early 70s. It was also my daughter's first school and my mother also attended classes in these very halls. There is also an "Old School History Museum" which I highly recommend a visit as well.

Where the fountain is today used to be the monkey bars I climbed on as a little girl. I also like to walk around the walkways and read the names of so many of my friends that helped sponsor the transformation when we choose to keep the old grammar school and turn it into the Plaza Arts Center and the home for our local Chamber of Commerce. There will be many more events there and I hope to see you at some of them.

Ladybug, Ladybug Fly Away....Wait, Where Is Home?

Earlier today I noticed the little fella in the picture on my windsheild as I was pulling out of my driveway on my way to a meeting. Call it curiosity or perhaps a bit of boredom but I decided to see just how long he hung on for the ride. I reset my mileage gauge and off we went. 7.8 miles. Not that far right? Well, if you're the size of a ladybug that's a LONG way. Perhaps like me moving from Atlanta to Lake Oconee (approximately 75 miles), maybe? Figured he might be a little confused and need a little guidance on where to go and what to do.

In this guys case he went from living in Greene County to Putnam County so his little ones will need to switch from Lake Oconee Academy to Gatewood Schools. He'll probably want to continue to support Greene County Chamber of Commerce but throw support to The Eatonton-Putnam Chamber as well. The Yesterday Cafe in downtown Greensboro will be a bit more of a fly for him now but well worth it for their famous Buttermilk Pie. He'll be super excited that Lake Oconee's most popular restaurant, The Silver Moon, is now just right down the street! On Tuesday nights he'll cross the bridge and go to El Chaparro in the Lake Oconee Village for $2 tacos but he'll also need to try the best Mexican restaurant in Putnam County, El Agave.

Feeling a little heavy around the wings after all that eating? Fortuantely for him Bodyplex is minutes down the road. If he's in the mood for a real butt whoopin', he'll need to go see Vince DiLetto at LOOP (Lake Oconee Optimal Performance)! Little sore from all that moving around? He should try pampering himself at The Blue Giraffe Salon & Spa or at The Ritz-Carlton Georgia Spa Resort.

When a cluster of his ladybug friends come in town, he should take them to Who Cares Bar & No Grill or Longshots for a few cocktails! But PLEASE don't drink and fly! Instead call The Lakeside Company and arrange a ride home. Not really a drinking crowd? Maybe they'd prefer to get in a few rounds of golf at any of Reynolds Plantation's six golf courses or a movie at Spotlight Theaters. If he doesn't have enough room for all of his friends in his new house, he can always direct them towards The Lodge On Lake Oconee or The Ritz-Carlton Lodge as great places to stay.

So where did I take the little guy? Where will he now call home? The Waterfront on Lake Oconee! It'll take no time at all for him to fit right in to his luxury condo where he'll relish in his unobstructed views of Lake Oconee. He and the family will be able to enjoy all the amenities and convenience of a luxurious vacation retreat at an affordable price!

No doubt he's going to love it here on Lake Oconee so much that he'll tell all of his friends. They'll fly into town and once they see how enjoyable life here can be they'll definitely want to stay. And who better to call to help them with all of their real estate needs than Marge at Large!?

Putnam County Animal Shelter needs your help

Tammy Lankford- lake sinclair (central Georgia): Real Estate Brokerage in Eatonton, GA

I always check out the lost puppies that end up at the Animal Shelter in case I know any of them. They post them to their facebook page. Of course we never let our kids off leash except in the fence and never take off their collars and tags except in the house, but I know it happens. You can be outside bathing your dog without his collar and in a flash a squirrel runs by and bam... you are chasing your dog down the street. Over the years I have had clients call me to ask for all the places (vets and shelters) they should check when a pet has gone missing. And of course there are just strays here and there that end up at the shelter and need a home.

Today when I was checking out Putnam Animal Shelter facebook page I see they have put out a call for some supplies and I thought I'd help spread the word for them. While they are waiting to be adopted these animals need things. They are looking for newspapers and old towels or sheets. I called my mom today to get her to save her old papers too. So I hope in a week or so I am making a big delivery of newspapers. I bet if I go through my linens I can find a few towels to donate as well.

Want to know how you can help? Check out their website. They can always use donations, food, supplies and volunteers. Oh and if you are looking for a pet think adopt and think adopt locally. They are located at 107 Ridley Drive (next door to the sherrif's department) and their hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

We have 5 animals in our home that are all adopt/rescue and one cat at the office that we are going to transition after surgery to a forever home next week. I can tell you from experience that you really do want to have a pet in your life. But if you can't adopt right now you can get some newspapers and old towels down to the shelter can't you?

And if you are not in the Putnam County area please help your local shelter. I bet if you called them they would tell you some item they need as well. Please adopt and donate.
