The Love Affair 29th Annual Fine Arts Festival

Tifton's beloved Love Affair Fine Arts Festival, will kick off the 29th year with arts being celebrated May 1 thru May 3rd.

Love is in the air as you stroll down Main Street, with art from local artists displayed in many of the merchant's store windows. Festivities will kick off Friday night along Main Street and Love Ave.

Three Graces at the Lankford Manor will feature the Poetry Cafe, with Jeff Newberry and others on open mic. Local student artists will be honored by the arts council with an exhibit of works at the Tifton Museum of Arts and Heritage. The Atlantic Coastline Artists Guild will also open it's gallery that includes works of many local artists.

Jim Newton and friends will perform jazz in the Myon Courtyard. The Tift Theatre will hold the last performance of "Grease" as a community partner event.

Fulwood Park.

Love Affair's Art in the Park is held Saturday and Sunday featuring four entertainment stages, Arts Circus/International Stage; Georgia Jubilee Stage, Tift Regional Gallery Stage and Arts Market and Gallery. Doug Berky is presenting "Gems," folklore and stories from all around the world using mime, puppets, masks, drama and music to delight his audience. The Chinese American Culture Performing Group is returning to the festival with life size puppets. Other groups performing are Naphtali Santiage, Puppet People, Laughing Matters, Regina's School of Dance, Upper Room, Sabor Latino and many dancers and clogging groups from all over South Georgia.

Artists of acrylics, pastels, oils, sculptures, wood, jewelry, glass, pottery and photograhpy will showcase their talents in the Arts Market.

There is fun to be had for all... it's a great time to visit Tifton.

Leroy Rogers Senior Center

Tifton's Leroy Rogers Senior Center is dedicated to the elderly in our area, providing needed services and information that is important to them. The staff at LRSC host prevention and education classes on elder abuse, GeorgiaCares counseling, nutrition and wellness programs, home-delivered meals and congegate meals with transportation provided as needed based on age, not income.

The center also offers Senior Exercise from 9-10 am Monday thru Thursday, led by Tift County Recreation Department. It also offers crafts and quilting clubs and senior field trips.

Leroy Rogers Senior Center is often rented for family and community events.

This is a picture of Tifton's City Hall. It is located in what was formerly the Myon Hotel, a significant historical part of Tifton's history. The Myon Hotel was once one of the finest hotels in South Georgia. Ater renovation of the hotel was completed in 1987, it has been home to Tifton's City Hall as well as other retail stores and Harper's In The Myon Restaurant. Tifton has a new business in town, The Vintage Vine. Martha Dixon opened The Vintage Vine in November, 2008, located at 218 Eighth Street. It offers vintage reclaimed furniture, home décor, lamps and many other unique gift items. If you're looking for that special something, come in and look around. The store hours are Monday thru Friday 10 am to 7 pm.

The annual benefit to underwrite expenses for the 2009 Love Affair Fine Arts Festival is scheduled for 6:30 pm. Saturday, January 31, at the Georgia Agrirama Conference Center. This year's event is titled "A Night of Intrigue on the Orient Express."

Asian-themed food and music will be featured throughout the evening. The feature presentation is a play, "Spirit of the Orient," written and directed by Tifton-Tift County Arts Council board member, Dottie Freeman, featuring local actors.

Ticket holders are able to participate in the silent auction featuring art by some of the Love Affair artists such as Tadashi Torli and Charles Pinkney as well as local artists. The silent auction will offer other items for a variety of interest. The winner of a $1,000 cash raffle will be selected during the event.

The Love Affair Fine Arts Festival is held annually the first Saturday of May in Tifton's beautiful Fulwood Park. If features live stage, musical and dance performances. It is a family fun-filled day with something for everyone and a great weekend to visit Tifton.
