Spring is just around the corner (typing that made me feel better, it's cold today) and that's the start of the hot selling season on Lake Sinclair. I have to confess I'm not speaking from personal experience here. My idea of "roughing it" includes unlimited hot water at the holiday inn and a mint on my pillow when I head to bed. I'm very spoiled by my tempuredic mattress and camping is NOT my thing. My parents took me a few times when I was a kid and counting bug bites and whining was how I spent a lot of my time. And if I want to eat fish, well Red Lobster always comes to mind.

My daughter, husband, brother, step-sons and my parents on the other hand LOVE the outdoors and camping and fishing. My parents actually go camping right here in the county we live in. They have done it for years. They camp and fish. And with spring around the corner the reservations may begin to fill up fast. Call the places below to find your spring/summer camping spot before they are all gone.

There are some fantastic places to camp. And while I'm not a camper, I do enjoy day trips to Putnam Beach. It has a roped off swim area, bath houses, picnic tables and paved roads. I've had my daughter's birthday party there in the past where she and her friends could go swimming. There are also boat docks and a ramp for launching your boat as well as camper and tent sites available.

There is Oconee Springs Park. It's also a really nice place. They even have a little store. They also have some cabins as well as camper spots.

There is Little River Park that allows both tent and campers and has a restaurant right next door as well. I'll have to write a post about Jackson's soon.

As you can see my daughter is much like my parents and her uncle, much more the "outdoorsy" type than her mama.

So if you want to come camping at my lake there are some lovely places to camp. There are some really nice hotels also. And if you are looking for a great weekend place that offers more than a tent or a camper, I can help you find one of those also. Heck I might even come put a mint on your pillow for you.

When a tournament is close all us locals can tell. Little River Park fills up with trucks and trailers. And tournament season is about to start.

Now personally I'm not much on fishing. I just like to putz and peddle around the lake on my peddle boat mostly. Occassionally a pontoon stroll is nice too. I can take a book and the dogs and enjoy the day out on the lake when the weather is nice. But for you folks that like fishing... I know someone who can help you find some good fishing spots.

And I'd like to point out that the GA EPD report on Lake Sinclair has no restrictions on how often you can eat the fish from Lake Sinclair. And don't forget that fishing license.

If you are a parent you know that you count your blessings when your healthy baby arrives. But many parents now know that ten fingers and ten toes when your baby arrives breathing well on their own isn't all that matters. Many parents now know that later in life something can go wrong, something that will change your life as a parent and the life and quality of life for your child. When you feel that your child has to "overcome" something nothing is more heartbreaking than not being able to fix it for them. I know this heart break with my own children so I know from personal experience that when Nancy's son Ryan was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes it was heart breaking.

Nancy didn't take it sitting down. She became not only a working mom, but a woman on a mission. Nancy organized an annual "walk for cure" walk in the Atlanta area, and further reached out in her state and formed the Lake Country Freedom Festival non profit. The first year her "event" on the 4th of July raised over $20,000. and this year over $27,000. Her mission is to help children with Type 1 Diabetes.

Nancy isn't just doing this to help her son. She's helping hundreds and hundreds of children who are living with Type 1 Diabetes and will continue on her mission. The event Lake Country Freedom Festival is annually held on the 4th of July where Americans celebrate freedom and Nancy Mozzone strives to give children living with Type 1 Diabetes more freedom.

If you live anywhere in Georgia this 4th of July drive to Lake Sinclair for the best fireworks in the southeast at the best festival in the southeast. You won't be disappointed. There's crafts, entertainment, great food and at dusk the best fireworks ever. And because she's working to be a better parent, Nancy started it all. Thanks Nancy.
