Helen, GA

Yes this is the "Last Call for Fall in Helen" and northeast Georgia. From Batesville, Lake Burton, Sautee Nacoochee, Cleveland, Clarkesville, Helen to Dahlonega, you will see wonderful color from now through the weekend. If we get rain (the weather wizards don't forecast it until Saturday) time will be cut shorter. Right now the nice gentle greeze helps the leaves float through the air and gently settle on the ground.

This morning as i walked out just as the sun was peeking over the trees there was a stained glass effect, gorgeous hughes of red and gold looked back at me and the whole world seemed to be bathed in wonderous color. There is no way you can look at that site and not be humbled. Nothing is as splendid as nature. Nature can create a masterpiece or a disaster. Come on to the foothills of the northeast Georgia mountains and celebrate this masterpiece with us!

Helen Georgia leaves are turning right on schedule. It is beautiful today and tomorrow will be in the 70s. It will be cooler this weekend, but nice to visit. Last call for fall colors ! Just bring a jacket for evenings and a sweater for the days. There are plenty of sites to see. You can smell the clean fall air and in the evenings you smell smoke for near by fireplaces which tells you a nip is in the air. Lots of people are building fire pits to sit by with neighbors, roast a marshmellow or two and drink some hot chocolate with the children. Ok, you missed a beautiful week end in Northeast Georgia! What a glorious day. I actually transplanted a wild strawberry tree. No, I don't have another name for it, it grows wild in this area, has little red berries in a strawberry shape. The leaves are changing rapidly and I predict this week to be the peak, but I am not a weather wizard, so I may be wrong. The maples are producing wonderful colors now. The dogwoods are still wonderful to see, such a grand little tree, it treats us to so much, blossoms, berries and colorful foilage, with distinctive bark. The last to turn color will be the Bradford Pear, and it is one of the first to produce blossoms in Spring.

Don't miss our fall extravaganza! Come on to Helen this week and for sure this weekend. You too can live in this bucolic paradise! Well, is there Helen haunting? yes and no. Yes there will be many "haunts" to visit in Helen, but as far as I can see there are no real histories of haunted places in Helen. You can do the research yourself, and if you find something please let me know. I can only find the nearest "haunting" to have been in Cleveland, at the Friendship Nursing Home. But you won't miss the fun in Helen, if you visit this weekend. There is always plenty to do and it is still Oktober!

Friends are coming up from Florida this weekend to enjoy their second home/vacation cabin they purchased a year ago in November. Believe it or not they missed all the beautiful fall colors and purchase a home on the Chattahoochee River on a cold, dreary, bleak day. They have a small plane and are able to rly up from Florida in about 3 hours. We have an airport which will accomodate small planes and they land there then pick up their Georgia GetABout car which is left at the airport and toodle on over to their house on the Chattahoochee River about 20 miles away. If you are coming to Helen for the weekend, you will enjoy color and good weather! The trees are turning and there are riots of color to enjoy. Reds, Yellows, Oranges, Golds mingle with the remaining green leaves for a great display. Looking at the Blue Ridge Mountain ranges you will see sights worthy of autumn. Bring your camera, light jacket and a container to take home some fall leaves to display with your pumpkins for Thanksgiving. You will need a weekend to enjoy Helen, Batesville, Sautee, Lake Burton, Cleveland and Clarkesville. If you are fortunate enough to own a motorcycle, this weekend will be great riding weather. The air is clean and crisp befitting the season. Days are wonderful and the evenings full of things to do in Helen!
