Downtown Newnan Georgia is a vibrant and robust business center, with shops, restaurants and services for citizen and visitor alike. It's also a great place for an afternoon or evening walk, with broad sidewalks and excellent traffic control.
One of the most interesting facets of downtown Newnan is the number of historic buildings still standing, Many were constructed in the 19th century, and still retain their charm and unique style.
If you wish to plan a walking tour of Newnan, a map listing the merchants is available from Mainstreet Newnan. It's a great guide for getting around town, There is also plenty of free parking in the area.
Even though I live in the area, I still enjoy walking the streets of Newnan, and I discover something new every time I visit. It's a piece of living history, so why not plan a visit today?

Country Music Superstar Alan Jackson returned to his hometown, Newnan Georgia, on Tuesday April 29 to sign autographs of music CD's and his wife, Denise Jackson's latest book: "It's All About Him: Finding the Love of My Life."
The line extended out the door of downtown's Scott's Book Store and down the street, as friends and fans waited up to two hours to spend a few seconds with Newnan's most famous native son.
Alan and Denise were as cordial and friendly as could be under the circumstances, as they tried to accomodate everyone's desire for autographs and photos.
However, the weather was nearly perfect, and the crowd was orderly, and everyone seemed to enjoy spending the afternoon outside with other Alan Jackson devotees.
Afterwards, the Jackson waved to the crowd as he climbed into his tour bus for a well-deserved rest. It was a fine ending to a special day in Coweta County,

Newnan, Georgia as established in 1828, Shortly after Creek Chief William McIntosh ceded Creek lands East of the Chattahoochee River. In retaliation, McIntosh was murdered by members of his own tribe. Coweta County was named for the Coweta (Kawita) band of the Creek Nation, and the County seat was named Newnan in honor of General Daniel Newnan, A Georgia Secretary of State and United States Congressman, Just South of the City is "Buena Vista," and antebellum mansion c 1838. Newnan was a confederate hospital city, and did not see fighting during the civil war, leaving these treasures behind for us to enjoy today!
Thanks to preservation efforts, Newnan looks much the same today as it did one hundred years ago, and the downtown shopping district is alive with custom shops and gourmet restaurants. Newnan is also a great walking town, with broad sidewalks and controlled crosswalks. There are numerous city parks for relaxing or strolling, and plenty of scheduled activities year-round. The slide show depicts random images from the city of Newnan, including some Spring shots with beautiful blooms. Many were taken along historic College Street, which features an excellent collection of authentic Victorian homes.
